going to seemed like going to literal hell. I was dead tired from the night before, staying out until 3 am can do that to a person. I grumpily dragged my feet along the floor as I walked from class to class.
I didn't like any kids at my school, and none of them liked me. it was just a mutual thing that had been happening since elementary school. normally, a few people would try to talk to me but no one had today. it was probably because of the pissy face I had been sporting all morning.
finally, the lunch bell rang. I walked out of my English class and out into the hallway.
"Maddox!" someone called. I spun around to see who it was.
James, the school's golden boy, stood there waving at me. I walked over to him.
"hi," I nodded.
"hey, I noticed you weren't looking too chipper and I was going to ask what was wrong." he smiled. is he serious? we've never even talked before. why does he care all of the sudden? also, who says chipper?
I looked around us, there was a ring of kids watching us. he was doing this for show. he didn't genuinely care, he just wanted to seem like a good person.
"I'm fine, thanks though." I smiled fakely at him.
"that's good to hear," he smiled, laughing slightly, "just wanted to make sure the rumors I heard weren't true."
"what rumors?" rumors about me were nothing new. the douchebags at my school liked to say things that obviously weren't true but this town of idiots often believed.
"I heard your mom started dating again, which is good for her. her first husband didn't go too well, obviously." he laughed, the crowd chuckled along with him. I clenched my fists. my parents were none of his business. "I heard he's actually nice to her this time. maybe he won't hit her."
next thing I knew, James was on the ground. I had punched him. I straddled his waist and continued to assault his face with my fists. I felt my knuckles ripping open but I didn't care. James' face was a bloodied mess. I swung my right fist at his face again but missed.
how did I miss? just then, I realized another boy had lifted me off of James. I fought against him but he held me back. damn him, whoever he was.
"Maddox Allen," a loud booming voice said. I felt my face drop. it was the principle. the boy holding me back, let go. I shamefully walked to our principle, Mr. Thompson.
"you're suspended," Mr. Thompson told me once we got into his office, "I don't want to see your face here at this school for the rest of the week."
"yes, sir." I nodded. my mom was going to be pissed.
"go home," he dismissed me. I stood up and walked out of his office.
"sorry," I mumbled to a kid that I nearly ran into.
"it's alright, your fists okay?" I looked up, it was the kid who had lifted me up.
"yeah, they're fine. nothing new," I shrugged. he laughed.
"that's pretty badass," he laughed again. his laugh was soft, it made me almost want to laugh along. almost.
"thanks?" I questioned, confused.
"I'm Christian," he stretched a hand towards me. I looked down at my fists and smiled apologetically, "right." he laughed and pulled his hand back.
"I'm Maddox," I nodded.
"even your name is badass," he smiled. his smile went all the way to his green eyes. his eyes seemed to glow with kindness. whoa, Maddox, stop being creepy. I shook my head, my subconscious was right. I was being creepy.
"thanks" I tried to be polite and laugh but all I wanted to do was go home and paint.
"see you around, badass Maddox." he smiled as he walked away. I watched his tall figure walk way. his tan arms swinging by his sides and his brown hair bouncing a bit with each step.
"you too," I awkwardly mumbled as I stumbled out of the school. I hopped on my bike and rode home.
