I looked up at the sky as the two slowly took pieces of each other off. I remember how things use to be. I remembered the days that Naruto and Sasuke would fight in childish arguments and it would never get very serious, because the next day they would be over it and team seven would be off again. But things were no longer like that. I keep having memories of us as team seven rushing in my head and then the memories of Naruto and me chasing Sasuke down. I remember the day we finally caught up with him. I remember my heart pounding, I remember the shock of how much he had grown going through me, and then I remembered his cold look and demeanor. I could never forget it. I remembered the day I wanted to take his life with my own hands because I felt the need to and Naruto came in time to save the day like he always did.
This time though, I knew that Naruto would be lucky if he did save the day without dying. I remember Naruto saying that they were both at the same strength level and that if they fought it meant they would both die. I hope he had been bluffing. They were covered in blood and breathing hard but neither of them would stop. It was not like that day so many years ago when I was rushing to stop them and Kakashi was the one to do so. He wasn't strong enough to do that now. Naruto was the only one that could bring Sasuke back; he was the only one that could stop them. I felt the tears rolling down my face and I didn't want to see what would happen next.
"Naruto is going to die if this keeps up!" I yelled clenching my teeth my arm supporting Kakashi's limp form.
I didn't turn my head from the battle, but I heard him say, "Naruto knows that. He knew that going into this battle. He doesn't care. If he has to kill Sasuke to bring him home he will, and if he has to die for that to happen he will. Naruto would give his life for any of us, but Sasuke is the one he would give his life for because he made a stupid choice. Sasuke is the only one that Naruto would have gone after like this. He is not blind." I felt my throat choke up. Kakashi put him arm around me not really knowing what to say, but I understood how he felt. Naruto might have felt like my brother but Sasuke had never been that way for me, he had always been much more to me. I knew I did not want to face a life without Naruto or Sasuke.
No one would have ever guessed that Naruto would have grown up to be the one to save the village so many times and no one would have guessed that he would have fought his heart out for anyone else. Naruto had come so far in so few years. Sasuke too. Sasuke had the power that no one but Naruto could take on. If Naruto did not stop him I knew that everyone in this village was going to die. No amount of pleading would stop him. Everyone else had known that for the longest time and had asked us why we kept on, but it was because even now we could see the old Sasuke in there somewhere. We know it. Naruto, Kakashi, and I know it.
I saw Naruto and Sasuke clash again before each of their hand glinted, I knew what was about to happen. The scene from the hospital flashed in my head. I turned my head to Kakashi and saw his eyes close. He was breathing. The exhaustion of fighting Kaguya is finally taken a troll. I sat him beside the boulder and leaned over, my lip touching the his headband.
I turned my head to two. Move...move…move…just move. This has to be done. That's all I can think to myself as I see them coming to attack each other. I had to do this, there was no other choice. I did not at all want to do it. Sasuke and Naruto, both of them are my family, and now they're fighting each other for the life of my friends, my village, and myself. However, I cannot allow things to go on like they have been. Sasuke has to come home… Naruto promised me. Naruto will bring him home, no matter what.
With that I bolted.
Their ears were filled with the deafening shrieks of their elemental attacks. Yet somehow, over the howling of wind and the crackling of lightning – they still heard her cry.
“STOP IT! NOW!”
Naruto’s widened eyes met Sasuke’s in a look of abject, wordless horror. His gaping lips were moving – but Sasuke didn’t hear his words.
All he could hear was the rush of blood in his ears. Nothing could have prepared him for the devastating way his heart lurched at the realisation that she had somehow, against all the odds, managed to dispel his genjutsu.
He finally caught sight of her slight form, racing directly into the path of their attacks like an incoming, targeted missile – just as she had done at the age of twelve.
Déjà vu slammed into him, knocking the air from his lungs as the same, senseless panic that had crippled him back then overtook him once again.
Except this time, it was even more frightening in its intensity.
Because this time, he knew she was alone – and neither Kakashi, nor anyone else, could redirect the unstoppable force of their attacks.
How? How? He was enraged at himself, at her for her reckless, annoying stupidity. What had he done wrong?!“SAKURA-CHAN!” Naruto’s frightened, hysterical scream was blood-curdling. “NO! GET OUT THE WAY- WE CAN’T STOP-”
He heard someone else yell at her, in a tone full of such sheer desperation, that it shocked Sasuke to register that it was his own voice shouting.
“Sakura, MOVE!”
But he could see that as always, she had absolutely no intention of listening to him. She continued forward, her eyes burning bright like luminous green flames. The tears that had plagued them at twelve were non-existent. All Sasuke saw instead was a fierce, fiery resolve.
And he realised then, from the pure determination in her features.“I WON’T LET YOU KILL EACH OTHER!” she screamed, raising her arms as if to ward them both back. “STAND DOWN! NOW! BOTH OF YOU!”
Everything seemed to happen in sickening slow motion, then – Sasuke watched, powerless to stop the momentum of his hurtling body, powerless to call his chakra back in time, as she arrived directly between them at the precise point of impact.
Except Naruto, in one last-gasp, mighty effort, managed to jerk himself marginally to his left, to graze the bulk of his attack just short of her left shoulder. The hurricane cyclone flew from his palm, striking the ground where it exploded, causing rock and debris to crack all around them as the blond slammed sickeningly into the ground, stomach first. He lay there, dazed, unable to divert Sasuke – or help Sakura.
Even before his hand drove lethally through her chest, Sasuke’s mind – and anything else that was left of him – shattered. Someone was screaming – he didn’t know if it was him, or her making such terrible sounds - and then pure chaos ensued, as lightning energy exploded, blinding his vision. She closed her eyes as the Chidori came closer, a warm smile spread across her lips "I'll see you two on the other side when it's your time.." She whispered right as the attack hit her on her collar bone.
A bone chilling scream erupted from her lips, she felt like her body was being ripped in half as her world started to fade to nothing but pure white abyss.
When he opened his eyes, Sakura was no where to be find.
