Ch. 1

"Lestrade?" Sherlock asked into the phone. "Are you listening? I am NOT going to the states. Absolutely not," he said.

"Your reason against it? We need to get this solved, Sherlock...and quick. You know as well as I do, that's where he went," Lestrade told the detective. Sherlock groaned into the phone. "What is your aversion to the States, Sherlock?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Sherlock asked, sarcastically. He looked over at his blogger, who just shook his head. He and Sherlock had had this discussion before, when they came across American tourists in London. Mostly, John found them alright, but of course, Sherlock found them annoying. Anyone under his intelligence level he finds annoying, John thought.

"Sherlock...I will be with you, alright? I'll thwart off stupid people," John said, trying to sound convincing. Sherlock rolled his eyes at him.

"John, you would never sleep," Sherlock said, seriously. John chuckled, knowing he was right, as usual.

"Sherlock, we have to catch this guy. If Americans are as hopeless as you think, then how do you expect the American authorities to catch him?"

"A point well made...what, Lestrade?" Sherlock bellowed back into the phone. Apparently, he was trying to get Sherlock's attention and failing, while he and John were talking.

"I was saying, all the expenses are paid for, including apartment, car and everything else," Lestrade explained.

"Not by your division, so by whom, may I ask?" Sherlock asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Mycroft," Lestrade said plainly. A grin spread across the consulting detective's face. John raised an eyebrow at him. He knew that smile...Sherlock just got his way.

"Go pack, John," Sherlock said, still smiling.

"Alright. How long are we staying, exactly?" John asked.

"Until we catch him," Sherlock answered. "Alright, Lestrade. Thank you. I'll thank Mycroft myself," he said, and he hung up the phone. He punched the air, and laughed. "Brilliant. Bloody brilliant,"

"Quite. I'm guessing you planned this?" John asked, smirking at Sherlock.

"Of course," Sherlock said, with a small nod. "I surprise myself, sometimes,"

"Humble, as always," John quipped, nudging his friend. "So...you need to pack too. Also, since this isn't our home we will be staying in...I think we shouldn't leave your, ah, 'experiments' lying around there, hmm?" Sherlock whipped around to face him.

"But, John...," Sherlock said, starting to pout a little.

"No buts, Sherlock. It isn't the same as it is here. No one knows how you are there...," John said.

"So what? Who do I have to impress?" Sherlock asked.

"No one. Never mind; do what you like," John said. He turned to go upstairs and pack. He heard Sherlock sigh when he was halfway up.

"Fine. I'll only experiment when it is necessary," Sherlock said. John smiled to himself.

"Thank you," he said.

The next morning, a very sleepy John was woken by a shaking to his shoulders. "Wha--?" he asked, sleepily.

"John, wake up!" Sherlock said, happily.
