The blue and yellow inflatable rafts bob and float in the weak current blocked by the towering, rocky cliff. Sunlight dances on the water as the little boats with the logo "Rock N' Water" are tied together and people in the rafts scoot off the sides and into the cold water. Shivering, they swim to a place in the wall decorated with footholds and small, streaked-with-black boulders all the way up to an overhang above the deep, crystal blue water. Soon, the river rafters are lining up to hike up the steep precipice and jump off, arms cartwheeling as they plummet towards the dancing river below.
Just as the last people join the line, a girl jumps off her raft with a splash and swims to the overhang. The guide puts his hand on the rock so she can boost herself up, and she starts making her way across the pebble-strewn surface. She sways with the breeze at the very edge of the cliff, and peeks over her toes all the way down to the water. Pale, she turns to the boy behind her in line and says something, stuttering. Taking another look at the boaters who are so, so far down that they seem like ants, she steps back and away from the drop.
