A man with bright red hair turned around in his spinning chair, his hands folded together. "I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey. Not one to see if there is life on Mars? or to a tin can, but to one that will begin in Denton, USA." (Ok I know all the characters in this story are English, but give me a break) He says as he flips three pages in his criminology book before finding a profile on John Deacon.

"It seemed a fairly ordinary night when John Deacon and his fiancé, Veronica Te-" Unable to read the name, he simply filled it in with some garbled letters that seemed correct. "-two young, healthy, ordinary kids, left Denton that late November evening." (It was August.)

John and his fiancé sat in awkward silence for a while as they rode down the dark road. After all, they were just your average everyday introverted couple, really neither of them spoke too often. Veronica was breaking off pieces of a chocolate bar, as well as offering John some, but he refused as he couldn't become diverted from driving.

Suddenly, a motorbike flew by the rain-covered window. "Gosh, that's the third cyclist we've seen tonight," Veronica sighed. "They sure do put their life in their hands."

"Life is cheap to people like those, Veronica."

John grabbed the handkerchief from his breast pocket and began wiping condensation off the windshield.

"What's wrong, John?"

The two looked straight at a blinking sign reading the words, "DEAD END"

A few seconds ticked by before the continuing silence was interrupted by a large bang, starting the couple inside the car. The two jerked forward, John putting his arm in front of his fiancé to keep her from getting hurt.

"WHAT WAS THAT BANG?!" Veronica shouted after being startled.

"We must've had a blow-out... dammit!" He sighed and turned his head. "I think there's a castle a few miles back... I'll go and check."

"No, John, let me come with you!" She said, grabbing his arm.

"Oh, Veronica, there's no harm in both of us getting wet!"

"I want to come! Besides, the owner of the castle could be a beautiful woman and I might never see you again..."

John smiled as he stepped out of the car. Veronica followed behind quickly, putting a newspaper over her head as a makeshift umbrella.

As the two walked through the darkness, Veronica began singing. "In the velvet darkness of the blackest night, burning bright... There's a guiding star... no matter what or who you are..."

"There's a light..." The two sang in a unisonical harmony. "Over at the Frankenstein place... There's a light burning in the fireplace. There's a light, light, in the darkness of everybody's life."

Riff Raff looked down at the young couple from the castle's upper window. "The darkness must go, down the river of night's dreaming... Flow, morphia, slow, let the sun and light come streaming into my life. Into my life..."

"There's a light over at the Frankenstein place... There's a light burning in the fireplace... There's a light, light, in the darkness of everybody's life."

The harmonious tune kept the two distracted from the rain as they walked towards the door to the large castle. Pulling the doorbell, the couple was shocked it sounded like a foghorn. "What is this, The Addams Family?" John whispered.

A slightly hunched over man opened the door slowly and set his hand on the door, tapping it finger by finger over and over.
