I had now been with the group for a couple of days. They started to get used to my presence and I was getting used to my new tasks. I was mostly helping Lori and Carol with the food and dishes. I also helped Maggie with the farm as long as I didn't have to be close to the animals that lived here. I started gaining trust for the group and they also seemed to start opening up to me. I knew that Glenn was crushing hard on Maggie so I would always come up with ways to get them to talk to each other. Glenn understood what I was doing when I left them alone when we were working and he always gave me a side-eye. He was going to be thankful to me one day though.
"Isa!" I saw Rick in the distance waving at me. I approached him. "I was thinking about looking at how you knife and gun skills are. Shane and I are going with Glenn and Carol to shoot for a bit. You should come with us. We've got one place left in the car." He suggested.
"Yes, I'm coming with ya'."
"Good. Meet us at the cars in ten minutes." I nodded in agreement.
I walked towards my tent to grab my knife. I always had my gun on me and I probably should have my knife with me at all times too. As I walked to the cars I saw Daryl working on his bike. None of the people going to gun training were at the car yet so I figured I could talk with Daryl while I waited.
"What's up?" I asked him. He glanced at me from behind the bike. "Ain't gonna answer me, huh?"
"Don't you see that I'm busy?"
"And I'm bored." I gave him some sass back.
"Whatcha want me to do 'bout it?" He asked annoyed.
"Keep me some company while I wait perhaps. Or maybe, I don't know, talk." I suggested.
"Ain't gonna do that." He answered.
"Well, I'm just gonna sit here and look at you for a while." I said as I knocked the hood of the car. He grunted silently. " I know. I'm sooo annoying but I'm going to shut up." I said and kept my promise.
"You lucky I don't kill the living either." He said in a whisper. I snorted to what he had just said.
I waited quietly for the others while looking at Daryl patiently work on his bike.
"Are you ready?" Shane asked me while opening the back door for me. I saw Daryl give Shane a look of what I would describe as hatefulness. Shane didn't notice. Was there bad blood between those two?
"Hell yeah, I am!" I said excitedly trying to ignore the glances from Daryl. Shane closed the door behind me and sat down on the front seat besides Rick who was driving.
"Then let's do this!"
Rick drove for maybe about an hour before we arrived to our destination. It was far enough to not attract walkers to the farm from the sound of the gunshots. We stepped out of the car and Rick opened his bag and took out some empty cans that he placed on top of a rock in a pyramid formation.
"Alright, I'll start shooting cans with Glenn while Shane shows you the basics of a gun." He said to me and Carol and we nodded in response.
I grabbed my gun out of my belt and Carol was given one by Shane.
"I know you both have used a gun before but we are going to go through the basics anyways. This is to make sure that whatever you've learnt, you've learnt it right." He said while holding his own gun in his hands. I was feeling like a little school kid when he introduced us to guns. "But remember, the most important thing is; shoot to kill." He paused for a second. "Those walkers don't die unless you shoot them right through their brains." He said and proceeded to show us how to load the gun, secure it, hold it the right way and lastly shoot it. I already knew most of the things that he was telling us but it was good to go over them again.
