Neveah woke on her birthday in the hospital. She felt odd as her eyes blinked open. Her brother was sitting beside her bed. He had fallen asleep beside her. "Obrey..." Her voice was hoarse due to her not using it for a while.
It had been almost 5 months since she was awake. She raised her hand weakly, her vision was blurry so she couldn't tell if she was sseeing things or not. Her hand... it looked like her skin had a green tint to it, like scales were in barely noticable patches all up her arm.
The heart monitor showed as her heart sped up. She was breathing fast as her eyes got wide. Obrey woke as doctors rushed into the room. Neveah started to hyperventilate as doctors rushed over to her sides.
Her eyelids drooped as they put something in the I.V. Her brother got pushed from the room as she once more fell into darkness.
A few hours later in the same day, Neveah woke again. This time her bed was possitioned to where she was sitting up.
A nurse smiled as she woke, "you've been sleeping for a while miss Drake."
Neveah looked around her. "M-May I sssee a mirror?" The girl asked. What happened to her words? They sounded slurred.
The nurse hesitantly brought her a mirror. "Please don't get upset miss Drake. They did the best they could. But the snake that bit you. It's venom was that of something they've never seen. They didn't know what to do, they-"
Neveah snatched the mirror away from the nurse before she kept on. What she saw disturbed, but at the same time intrigued her. Her face was a very pale green, patches of scales that were barely noticeable scattered over her body, fangs protruded from the top row of her teeth as she opened her mouth. Her tongue was forked. But what disturbed her the most was her eyes. The calming deep blue iris of her eyes had turned more a deep green. Her pupils were were no more than vertical slits.
She lowered the mirror and almost cried, but didn't. She just sat there with a blank face.
"Sweetie. Are you alright?" The nurse asked. As she looked towards the door way. "I'm going to get your brother. He's been waiting to see you when you wake. " the nurse quickly walked from the room only to return a few minutes later with Obrey.
"I want to talk to him alone." Neveah smiled slightly as her words slurred from her mouth.
Obrey smiled as the nurse exited the room. He closed the door and walked over to sit beside her. "Dad went to jail. They saw the scars all over you. I... I'm sorry I never said anything, or that I never talked to you."
Neveah smiled at this. She held out her arms as to ask him for a hug. He leaned in for the hug and squeezed her.
"You never cared did you? You didn't do anything. Never. You jusssst lissstened to me cry in my room." Neveah whispered in his ear before turning her head and biting down hard into his neck. Blood dribbled down her cheek as she ripped out the side of her brother's neck. She spit it out as her brother collapsed in her arms. She laughed to herself as he gasped for air. " you alwayssss let me take the blame. You weren't even there when mother died."
Obrey had tried to say something but he couldnt say anything. Neveah pushed him to the ground and ripped all of the tubes and needles from her body. She laughed quietly to herself. Before bending over her brother's body. She could hear everything. She could hear his still beating heart, his shaky breathing. "I can hear everything you know..." She then ripped open his jacket. As she broke through his ribs she could hear every small crack of bone, the shudders that went through him. She ripped through his chest until she got to his still beating heart. She licked her lips and put her hands around it. "Death has been calling your name. I can hear it clearly now." She ripped the heart from his chest. And his eyes glazed over.
She could hear faint steps running towards her room. She laughed loudly to herself. She took her brother's now bloodied jacket and put it on. She got under her bed and slid out a box of clothes. She slipped on the pair of shorts she had been wearing the months before. They were those types that came up all the way to your waist. She smiled as she looked at herself in the small mirrior.
"Lookin better than ever." Neveah smiled as she stuck her now forked tongue out at herself. But when she heard the footsteps grow closer she dropped the mirrior and ran out of the door.
Soon she had ran from the hospital. She ran into some woods before wandering into a park. It gave her exactly what she needed. It told her where she was. She smiled as her house was off about ten miles from the South of the park.
She started off South. She slowly made her way through the woods with bare feet. She avoided all the possible wounds she could but after a few hours of walking she was tired. She huffed and sat down.
She had been seeing odd marks on trees. She had heard muffled speaking, she wasn't sure if she was just hearing things or if there were actual people out there.
Neveah bolted upright as she could hear clear words behind her. Her eyes made it easy to see in the darkening woods but she was frightened.
She ran until she got to the edge of the woods. She turned around to see three boys standing side by side. One with an odd colored hoodie and a black and red mask, another with a white mask feminin features on it and a yellow jacket, and the last had two hatchets, one in eigther hand, and orange goggles.
Neveah's heart stopped as she turned and ran out of the woods. She could hear one of them calling to her, telling her to stop. One gave chase, the one with the hatchets.
He was gaining on her. She saw her house far in the distance. This urged her to run even faster. She did.
She was still slower than the man behind her. She was getting even closer to her house, it was only about a hundred yards away when she felt the boy grab onto her jacket.
She stopped abruptly before spinning and punching him hard in the face. His goggles fell from his face and he let go to quickly grab them off of the ground.
In this time she had sprinted off. She could see the front door when she heard another pair of foot steps join the other.
In a few seconds she was on the front porch of her house. Thankfully it was unlocked. She quickly turned the job and ran in. She shut the door behind her and locked it before running up to her father's room.
She searched his room before finding the whip. She picked it up. The end of it had been studded with spikes. She then ran to her room and found a pair of boots. The only shoes she had besides the tennishoes that were almost in pieces.
She slipped them on as she heard people rushing up the steps. She had hid in her closet as she held the whip close to her.
She could hear the boys panting as they rushed into her room. She held her breath as they looked around. They walked towards the closet and she crouched down.
They slowly opened the door. Neveah then leaped onto the closest one. It was the one wearing the feminin mask.
He screamed she had pushed him to the ground. The whip was tight around his neck as he started to choke.
She had forgotten about the other two until they grabbed her by her jacket and arm and pulled her away.
Neveah hissed at them as she tried to turn and bite them. She was struggling to get free of them as the one she had attacked got up and unwrapped the whip from his neck.
He coughed a few times before hitting her over the head with the end of a knife he had been carrying.
She blacked out.
