Down on Earth, in a small meadow, was Marethyu Mortem. He squinted his brilliant green eyes at the sun, then watched it slowly sink and finally set in the west. As night settled, he turned around and went into his treehouse, climbing up the boards he'd nailed into the oak tree so long ago. Marethyu opened the wooden door and walked inside, closing it behind him.
"Just another boring day," he said and plopped down on his cotton bed beside his wooden desk.
On one wall was a bookshelf filled to the brim with books. A small kitchen area was set into one corner and a bathroom area equipped with a shower, sink, and toilet was built into another corner. On the floor was a bland white rug, which an metal table sat on top of. The table was surrounded by two chairs of the same material, with lumpy cushions in the seats. A large glass window had been installed into the wall so that it sat above his bed. Marethyu leaped up and peered at the world beyond the window. Everything was dark and vibrant with life. The meadow stretched out far and wide. Marethyu was all alone at the moment. His family had all died in a mysterious epidemic that had came from nowhere. He was glad that the epidemic was over though, and that he wasn't affected by it. Even though he had absolutely no idea why. Perhaps his immune system was immune to the unknown disease. But he shrugged it off. There was no point in trying to figure out why when the problem was already solved. He sighed. "I wish SIlvia was here. She's been gone for over three days." He got up and went to his bookshelf. Scanning the titles on the spines, he ran an index finger along the books.
