"Dad, what just happened to me," my voice came out small and muffled in to my fathers now wrinkled polo shirt.
"Honey I'm sorry, I should have told you sooner." I pulled away from him and sat back into the soft padding of the bed. "Told me what? That I could catch on fire?" he took in a deep breath.
"Your mother and I was trying to avoid this we didn't want you kids involved in any of this, it all my fault." he then buried his hands in to his hair pulling it back, letting it go, and then pulling it back again. He always did this when he was stressed or him and my mom argued.
"Dad just tell me what's going on," he took a deep breath and sat down beside me making the bed take his weight.
"It started years ago, and I'm not talking twenty or thirty years I'm saying hundreds." he turned his body towards me, his brown yes focusing on mine. "Two hundred years ago in Ancient Egypt, Siol Mie Moon was one of the most powerful creatures to walk the Earth."
"Creature? What do you , mean like human?" he shook his head at me slowly. "No I mean creature, and he wasn't the only one but he was the oldest one. One of the oldest Vampires."
he ignored my intake of breath and continued on, " For years humans lived in fear of the creature's and their blood lust. They kept us as animals and feed from us often." there was a ting of pain that glimmered in his eye's. "No matter how hard we fought we couldn't escape, they are fast, powerful, relentless. They smell up to seventeen times better than we can, left a oak tree right out of the ground with one hand, but Siol Mie Moon... he was far worse. He thought he was King and excepted to be treated as such, until one dark day it happened."
My eyes widened "What happened?"
"He left, some say he was destroyed, some others say that he died but either way he was gone and so was the others,"
"So what happened then? They just left and that was it?" he sneered at me and almost laughed
"Its wasn't that simple Mel, see we thought that they were gone that they would never return so people started making up stories about them to tell their children so that they could sleep at night. So fear turned into stories, and stories turned into motion pictures, so on and so forth."
My head was spinning, "What does all of this have to do with me? Or the fire that just came out of me dad? That has never happened before."
"Oh sweetheart yes it has, you see you are not the only one of our kind that has the will of the flame." he smoothed my hair away from my face lovingly. "What do you mean our kind?"
" You are a Owl my dear your spirit animal was shown to me and your mother when you were born but you also have to power of both me and your mother. This is how it works." He sat back away from me crossing his legs on the bed like he use to do when he helped me with math.
"Everyone has an spirit animal but not everyone has the Magna in side o them that gives your animal the power to live so it slowly dies of leaving just a shell of the animal inside of the person. Your mother spirit animal is a Refolox Draco which is Latina for dragon in ancient times. Which gives you your control of fire when you have powerful emotions. Mine is a Brefalo Bubonem which is ancient for The Owl that sees. When you were born Mel, the doctors couldn't see your true form because of the spell your Aunt put over your mothers pregnant belly. But when we took you home it did. Feathers came from your head and fire lit your cradle. We had hoped that your aunt had another spell that would get rid of your power but she could only stop it for awhile, until your 19th birthday.""You mean for the last 19 years of my life you have been lying to me?" I couldn't get angry, I now knew what would happen if I did. All this he was telling me couldn't be true! It just couldn't be. The vampires? The spirit animals? This all sounded crazy to me there was no way. I must have fallen asleep on the plane. Or better yet I was still in my warm bed asleep. I started laughing, low at first then then a little louder until it was the only thing I could hear, "Mel, are you okay?" little trails of tears ran down my cheeks as I laughed. 'Hmm let me think dad you just told me all of this crazy crap about being a owl/demon that can control fire? I would think I wouldn't be okay." He stared blankly at me and smiled a little. "Do you want me to show you?"
