A/N: Okay...so yes. I know that it's been a long time since I have updated anything properly. I know that. And I'm sorry. My family was having a family emergency and there is still a lot going on so I hope that you guys can understand that that is why I have not been updating, or really been on Wattpad at all. But I just got this idea, it just popped into my head, and I knew that I had to write it down before I forgot it because I have been kind of scatterbrained lately. It is kind of a cheesy/romantic one-shot (you know, my specialty ;)) and I thought that I at least owe you guys this if I'm not updating any of my other stories right now. So here it is! Hopefully I will be back to regular updates soon! Wish me luck. I'll need it, maybe. Leave a comment or vote if you enjoy this one shot and want to see more of these, I may just start a book of random one shots. What do you guys think? Anyways, enough of me talking for now. Enjoy!
It's 2 am. She lays on her bed with her head propped up on the pillows, her blankets draped lazily over her lower legs. Moonlight that streams through the open curtains on the bedroom window to her left bounce off of her hair, illuminating her face for the boy on the other end of the phone.
She gazes out the window beside her, seemingly lost in some sort of trance. A soft voice comes from the phone laying in her lap, pulling her attention back to him. He says something funny.
She yawns, running a hand through her hair, and smiles meekly.
"What's wrong?" he says.
She shakes her head, letting out a breath. She glances again at the inky sky outside, then back at the boy on the screen.
He tilts his head to the side.
She doesn't answer him.
"Come on... I know that there's something. I'm not that dumb," he chuckles, but his voice is soft and quiet. Caring.
She remains stubborn, not wanting the raging thoughts that are plaguing her to break through her strategically built wall. "Nothing." Her voice is very tight, choked. Forced.
There is no use hiding it from him. For him, there is no wall left standing.
"Really...?"
She shakes her head in the slightest negative motion. He still catches it. "What's wrong?"
She sighs, letting out a shaky breath. "Why me?"
"What?" He looks taken aback. "What do you mean?"
She knows that question could be taken many different ways. But she's still not sure why this one specific question bothers her so much. It's been a long time, she should already know the answer by now. "Out of everyone, every girl that you could have chosen, why me?"
He sighs, but it's almost like a chuckle. He closes his eyes for a moment and shakes his head. However when he opens them, he sees the pained look in her eyes.
His face grows serious. "Nobody understands me like you do."
She looks up at the screen from under her lashes. "What?"
He smiles sheepishly, but beneath that smile is years of pain. "No one is quite like you. You understand me. You understand me, and you want me for who I am."
She sighs, staring straight into his eyes. They used to be bright, and although the brightness returns to his eyes around her, they are still dim with pain. She knows the story, and if you can look closesly, you can see it in his body. In the way he carries himself, in his eyes, it is etched into every line upon his face.
He whispers, still staring straight into her eyes. "Not who everyone else sees me as."
There's a long pause.
"Do you love me?" She says.
A sharp intake of breath, and then a deep, long sigh. "Of course I do, baby."
Another, shorter, pause.
"I love you too. So much."
He runs a hand through his hair. "I love you to the moon and back."
She gazes back out the window again, content. Her eyes are focused on the moon and the intriguing formation of the stars, but her heart is fixed on the boy on the screen.
"You're beautiful," he says.
She smiles shyly, bringing her focus back to her phone. "I am?"
He nods, smiling at her. But this time, the smile reaches his eyes. They light up a bit more. She loves seeing him this way. It makes her happy.
"You mean the world to me," she says.
"You don't mean the world to me." He pauses, and for a split second, her heart stops. "You are my world," he replies.
Her face breaks into a smile of relief.
"There was a moment," he says, "when we were apart. Those terrible, terrible times...that I realized..."
He pauses again.
"Realized what?" She asks curiously.
"That there was no going back," he says. "That I had truly fallen in love with you, to the point of no return. It had been you, it was you, and it always would be...you."
She blushes deeply, thanking the dark for hiding her flushed cheeks.
He continues to gaze longingly at her. "I'm yours," he breaths.
To her, it seems as though nothing else matters. Time has stopped for them, as it always seems to her when she is with him.
"Your mine," she repeats. "And I'm all yours."
He breathes out again, a breath that he didn't even realize that he was holding until that moment. He smiles at her. "I love you."
"I love you too. Forever-"
"-and Always," he finishes.
They smile at eachother, seemingly lost in eachother's eyes.
Truly happy, peaceful minded, and content, they decide to go to sleep. Deeply in love they say their good nights, and she hangs up the phone.
She places her phone face up on the table beside her bed, not daring to look back out the window behind her head in fear of getting lost in the beauty of the moon.
She pulls her blankets in a tight cocoon around her body, resting her head down lightly on the pillows. She lets out a very long, quiet sigh. It's almost silent, but happy. She still doesn't know why that question was bothering her so much, but she suspects it's just her over active brain trying to mess with her.
As she lets her eyes fall closed, one more thing catches her attention before she is lost to the longing, dark void of sleep.
It's a text from him.
Goodnight, beautiful.
She smiles herself to sleep.
