Lily didn't know if Daryl got her note or if he even knew it was her, but she was going to help get him get out. She couldn't stay another day in this prison.
The good thing about being one of Negan's wife was people didn't ask you a lot of questions. She was Negan's first wife, so he had eventually grown tired of her. He had almost six wives now, all prettier and more willing than her.
When she went to go unlock Daryl's cell no one asked her why she was in the holding cell hallway, but no one saw her either. She was quick and simply unlocked the door and walked away. She checked the hallway for the tenth time, still no one. She decided to hang around and see if Daryl would actually follow through.
For five agonizing minutes he did nothing, until she heard the door click open. Her heart leapt as she saw the sight of him. He looked awful, his clothes matted and dirty, his hair tangled and out of place. He clearly needed her help.
She whispered a "hey" to him to get his attention. Like a dog he quickly snapped his head in her direction. She waved her hand at him, telling him to follow her. She didn't wait to see if he was following her as she began to run down the hallway. It was dinner time so everyone was eating, the perfect time to escape.
Finding the exit door, she quickly pushed it with her body. It was jammed so she placed her hands flat on it, applying all of her body weight. It didn't budge until she felt someone behind her, pushing their weight into her, it was Daryl.
The door swung open from the force and they both were pushed forward slightly. He was still close to her and she could feel his heavy breath on the back of her neck.
"Let's get outta here," He said in a huff as he stepped around her.
She managed to find a truck with the keys still in ignition as they both smushed into the small cab. It started up with a soft purr and Lily rammed her foot on the gas. In a matter of no time they were gone, her home just an image fading in the rear view mirror.
She let out a long sigh of relief once the image was gone. She had escaped, with some guy she didn't even know. But funny enough, he was still better than Negan or any of his men.
Daryl rolled down the window and in one quick motion took his dirt covered sweatshirt, throwing it out into the void of grass pastures.
She tried not to stare at his toned stomach and body as she brought her eyes back to the road. In the midst of them escaping he had somehow snagged a flannel shirt. He put it on over his toned arms and buttoned it up.
"Why'd you do it?" He said in a gruff voice that startled her.
"Do what? Save you?" She said as she looked over at him for a quick second before looking back to the road.
"No, why did you become one of Negan's wives?" He brought his dirty boot up on the dash and looked out the window.
She sighed and rested her head back on the headrest. "He was going to kill me, I didn't have much of a choice in the matter."
"I'd rather die than have to touch that monster." Daryl muttered to himself.
"Well, if I wouldn't have agreed to be his wife, you'd still be locked up in that cell." She said a little louder, causing Daryl to look over at her in surprise.
"No, I'm not proud of that choice, but don't make me not proud of this one too." She said matter of factually as she gripped the steering wheel tight.
They didn't say anything else for a while, the silence settling over them like a blanket as they continued to drive. It was getting dark and they had to set up camp soon. They found an old beaten road that lead to what seemed to be an abandoned farmhouse. Daryl checked it out as Lily sat in the truck. He came out a few moments later giving her a quick nod before heading back inside.
