"Hello," Don greats the girl, forcing a smile. "Is your mother home?"
The young girl gave him a funky look, cocking her brow and crossing her arms. She was silently judging him, assuming he was just another guy her mother met.
"Depends." The girl replies in a sassy tone. "Who are you-"
"Savanna, what did I say about answering the door?" A woman's voice calls out, cutting her off. "I don't want-DON!"
Don straitens his posture at the sound of his name from the woman's lips and he's suddenly engulfed in a warm embrace. He wraps his arms around her waste and smiles. She's in his arms once again.
"Boy, I haven't had a hug like this in a long time." Don chuckles as she pulls away. "How are you, Rosy?"
Rosy smiles and kisses his cheek. "I am really good, Don. It's been a while huh?"
Don returns a smile but there's a flicker of sadness in his eyes. "Too long, Rosebud." Rosy rolls her eyes and playfully hits Don on the shoulder. "You nut, I can't believe you still remember that nickname! It's all Glenn's fault for starting that."
Don giggles like a child and his cheeks turn pink from the playful hit. It was as if they'd never drifted apart. "Well, come in and make yourself comfortable!" Rosy insists, leading him towards the kitchen. Rosy pulls out a chair for him at the kitchen table and he graciously takes a seat.
"Oh, I forgot..." Don looks down at the bouquet of flowers he forgot he was holding and presents them to her. "For you, Rosy."
"Henley, you cheesy stud!" Rosy gushes, "You didn't have-AMARYLLISES? Aw, Donny!" Rosy stands up to give him a peck on the cheek. "My favorite flowers, you remembered!"
"Did you really think I'd forget your favorite flowers?" He smiles.
"I'm so glad you took the time out of your busy schedule to come and see me, Don." Rosy sighs. "It means a lot."
There's a moment of awkward silence between them, both unsure of what to do next. Don scratches the back of his head and opens his mouth to speak, only to be interupted by Rosy's daugher emerging into the family room.
"Mom, who is that?" She points into Don's direction.
"Well first of all, Savana, It's not nice to point-put your finger down. This is Don, an old dear friend of mine from way back when."
"Ooh," Savana says, "you knew my mom when she was young?"
Don smiles and nods. "We grew up together, I knew her when she was your age, right Rosy?"
Rosy nods in agreement, but then remembers the reason why she asked him to come all this way to see her. "Sav, why don't you go play outisde for a while, Mr. Henley and I have a lot of catching up to do."
Her daughter nods, and runs off to her room.
"Rosy, why am I here?" Don really had no idea why he was there in the first place, he hadn't seen his best friend for eleven years, and suddenly sends a letter out of the blue one day and asks him to travel all the way to Portland Oregon just to catch up?
Rosy's face dropped and she was suddenly sruggling to make eye contact. "Don, the reason why I wanted you to come is because I wanted to talk to you about something that's been eating at me ever since I left. I've basically been in hidding for the passed eleven years. I haven't spoken to you or the rest of the band since then..." Rosy took a deep breath and told herself it was time. "Savanna is your daughter, Don."
Well it's about damn time I updated something lol.
Sorry y'all, life happens and the you procratinate and blah blah blah, excuses excuses...but here you go, the second chapter!! Forgive me if it sort of sucks lol. This chapter kind of reminds me of that scene if Forest Gump when Jenny invites Forest over to her house and introduces him to her son and confesses it's also his son-so I think I might be ripping off Forest Gump here lol
Lemme know what you think!!
