Life As A Child

"Mr. Gallos, your cars out front" said by my assistant at the time, Tommy. "Thank you Tommy, I'll be out soon." I say in a satisfying manner. That night, I had closed a major deal with a "client". He seems like someone I won't have to take care of...I hope...
I am going out to a nice little 50s style joint. Love their shakes and fries, maybe I'll even meet some nice girl or something. But I shrug that thought off, doubting that'll happen anytime soon. As I get into my limo we drive off, and I look out onto the city and think about my life and what I've accomplished so far.
Well, my name is Anthony Gallos and have NOT been born with a silver spoon in my mouth whatsoever. Let's get that clear. I was born in Brooklyn in 1989. Having an abusive pill popping father and a crack head mother, my home life was shit. Needless to say, we didn't have any money. Many nights I'd sneak out and stay at a local homeless shelter. And school? Forget about it. I was too busy working.
I was a timid, scared kid. And why shouldn't I have been? I was 9 years old, trying to survive in the street at 3 AM with the dope dudes and other lonely kids. At that time I had a job as a hair sweeper at Mickey's Barber Shop. Three bucks an hour, not much. But it was warm inside in the winter and cool during the summer. And sometimes Mickey would let me stay the night there. So it was nice. When I was working there, these men would always come around. Terrifying men with scars and suits. A dangerous combination. For some reason, these men were drawn to me. They'd tip me and shake my hand, especially the boss. I could tell he was the boss, everyone would drop anything just to do as he commanded. His name was Mr. Barone. I now know why they were drawn to me.
One day he handed me a box, marked "OPEN NOW". I was his little mail boy. I was never known as a trouble maker at the time so I was never suspected of doing anything illegal. Mr. Barone was always so trusting of me until I decided: "hey why not take a peek inside?"
This would end up being the smartest dumb decision I could've ever made.

Well, that's the first chapter. What did y'all think?
