Chapter 12. Halloween.

When I woke up, Curtis and I were home. I got my stuff inside. I put the stuffed lamb, which is mint green, in my room and I share my candy with Curtis. Curtis smiled and said "You'll be getting more candy tomorrow" I look at him confused and say "What do you mean?"
"Halloween is tomorrow" Curtis said and smiled. I smiled and say "Aren't I too old for trick or treating?"
Curtis smiled and said "You are never too old for trick or treating" I smile and bite into a chocolate bar with chunks of raspberries into it and Curtis eats a sea salt and Caramel chocolate bar.

After Curtis and I finish our candy bars, Curtis tells me I can't have anymore because he is going to make dinner. I nod and just play a game on my laptop. It's Epic Battle Fantasy 3. I get to the second boss, a giant squid and tentacles. This is gonna be fun.

After awhile I defeated the boss. When I was done Curtis came in the living room and said "Dinner is ready" I smile and get up and head to the dinning room. Curtis made cheeseburgers and French fries. I put cheddar cheese, ketchup, lettuce, and extra tomatoes on my burger. With my French fries I melt some cheese on them and eat them like that. I eat my fries first then I eat my burger.

As Curtis and I eat, we talk about tomorrow. First Curtis is taking me trick or treating and then we're heading to a Halloween party.  Then we talk about costume ideas. Curtis is gonna be a werewolf. I wanna be a zombie. Curtis says he'll go shopping for costumes after I go to bed.

Once dinner is done, I take a shower and head to bed. I hear Curtis leaving to go get the costumes. I yawn and snuggle into my bed, soon falling asleep.

I groan when I wake up. I look and see my clock says 8:34AM. When I realize I'm late for school I immediately get up and get dressed. I rush out of my room and see Curtis in the kitchen, drinking coffee. "You don't have school today" he said with a smirk. I groan and say "I wish I knew that before I got dressed"

After breakfast, Curtis was searching for a a good pillowcase. Soon he found a giant one and gave it to me. We waited out the day watching horror movies and when it was time for trick or treating, Curtis helped me with my costume, handed me the pillow case and then we were out the door.

We walk down the first street, I head up to the first house. I haven't been trick or treating in 2 years. I knock on the door, a man opens the door, and I can feel my heart beating. I hesitate before saying "Trick or treat" the man smiles and says "Good costume" he then gives me a king size Hershey's bar. "Happy Halloween" he then went back inside and closed the door.

I keep trick or treating for an hour, I have a good haul of candy. Now we go to a haunted house. Curtis never mentioned a haunted house.

We keep walking until we reach a mansion. It looks old and decrepit.
We walk inside and the door slams shut. I want to hold Curtis' hand but I try and be brave. We walk through a hall and enter a dinning room. There is a severed head in the middle of the table. Just then a man with a chainsaw comes into the dinning room. An ACTUAL CHAINSAW! He revs it up and starts to chase Curtis and I. We both start to run.

We run for what felt like forever and then we fall through a trap door. Now we're in a crawl space. Curtis starts to crawl forward and so do I. We hear a horrible scratching noise and then it starts to follow us. I panic and say "Go faster!" Curtis starts to go faster and so do I. Curtis makes it out and then he pulls me out. Now we are in a graveyard.

We slowly walk through until a hand comes out of a grave and grabs my ankle. I scream and step on the hand with my other foot. Curtis then grabs my hand and we start running. Soon some horrible monstrosity chases us and has almost grabbed me 3 times. It is too horrifying to be a zombie.

Once we make it out of the cemetery, a man laughs and says "Congratulations! You guys are the quickest ones out" he then hands us each 50 dollars. Curtis smiled and says "Time for the Halloween party"

We quickly head home and I put my candy and money in my room and get in Curtis' car. I smile as Curtis starts to drive. I have never been to a Halloween party. I hope it's fun.

Once we arrive, Curtis and I get out of the car and head inside the house. As soon as we enter, we are greeted by a woman dressed as witch. She hands us each a chalice that looks like something a vampire lord would use. She smiled and says "Feel free to keep the cups. We have plenty of snacks and drinks! Help yourself to it all! By the way, the cookies are the best.  Kimmie made them" she then left.

I look in my chalice. It's filled with a ugly green liquid. I take small sips and realize it's kiwi juice. I smile and drink more. Curtis smiled and said "Well, in the den there are games, in the living room there are horror movies. There is dancing and music in the giant dinning room. The food and drinks are in the kitchen. There is a bathroom in the hall by the kitchen. Be sure to go into the backyard when everyone else does. There will be even more games. You can stick with me or you can go about and do as you please"  I nod and smile. I head into the kitchen to refill my chalice. Maybe get something to eat, too. I didn't eat much at dinner 'cause I was excited.

Once I enter the kitchen I see big punch bowls full of green, red, and blue liquid. I decide to try the blue liquid. Once my chalice is full I grab a cookie that looks like it was made with Rice Krispies and cherries. I'm hesitant to eat but I try the cookie and it is actually really good. I finish the cookie and head into the den to see what kind of games there are.

There are no interesting games. Apples to apples, would you rather, headbands. The only interesting one was Clue but there were too many people playing. I decide to head into the living room and watch horror movies. I see Curtis and a lot of other people watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There is no place to sit so I just stand. Once Curtis' sees me he says "Come here, Erik" I walk over and he pulls me down so I'm sitting on his lap. I blush 'cause I'm so embarrassed. At least I don't have to stand now.

After an hour, everyone headed out into the backyard. Curtis and I followed everyone. Once we enter the backyard, I see a big metal bucket filled with water and apples, so there is gonna be bobbing for apples. Guess the body part, spooky candy hunt, and there are donuts on a string that we have to eat without using our hands.

First up is bobbing for apples. Only a few select people are gonna play, I'm one of those people, so is Curtis. We have 10 seconds to get as many apples as we can. Whoever gets a green apple wins. A man named Michael got 2, Curtis got 5. Now it's my turn. I go for a red apple. When I pick my head up everyone starts to clap and cheer. I got a green apple. Next is guess the body part.

Michael, Curtis, and I are blind folded. We stick our hands into a bowl of what feels like peeled grapes. Curtis calls out "Eyeballs!" Then we move onto the next one. We touch a piece of meat and Curtis calls out "Kidney!" Finally we are feeling spaghetti and Curtis calls out "Intestines!" And we get to jello Curtis calls out "Brains!" Curtis won the entire game. Next is the donut eating.

Michael is trying and failing. Curtis bites a good chunk, and I bite half the donut. By the time Curtis has half the donut gone mine is already gone. I'm good at this because me and a former friend used to see how many do donuts we could fit into our mouths. I won most of the games so I get a prize. A giant stuffed bat. Finally, spooky candy hunt. Everyone is participating. We are all given candy baskets and we have to hunt for candy in wrappers that look like body parts.

Within 5 minutes I already have 17 pieces. After everyone gets all the candy. The games are done and the party can continue. However I'm tired, so Curtis and I leave. I fall asleep in the car and I wake up to Curtis carrying me. I pretend to be asleep as Curtis tucks me into my bed, puts my bat in my arms and leaves the room. I smile and get comfy. Before I fall asleep I think "I love Halloween"
