"Congratulations Nari! Plendis just sent me a message saying you got the job!" my mentor suddenly exclaimed during our practise lesson, catching me off guard.
The audition was only two days ago so we weren't expecting a response so soon.
A grin overtook her face as she showed me the email.
Good Morning,
Plendis is pleased to offer Nari Kim the opportunity to be a piano accompaniment for the rookie group 'Seventeen'.
In this position she will be required to work with the 'Vocal Team' sub unit to enhance their vocal skills and help in the production of songs with the vocal team leader 'Woozi'.
Due to the heavy demand for a pianist from the team we have a special request for Nari Kim to be dormed with the group so that she be on hand when needed. We understand that this is a daunting request but we can assure you that it is an rewarding position.
We hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Plendis.
I let out a shaky breath, "I don't know if I can do it," I said quietly.
"Why not? You're more than capable Nari," she assured me.
But that's not the problem.
I stayed silent as I played with the piano keys while I contemplated the situation.
I had two options, one was to decline the position and avoid seeing Joshua ever again but lose out on this opportunity or to accept the offer see him on a daily basis.
"If you're nervous about it, I can send a email asking if you can have a few days trial before accepting the position," my mentor suggested, "I usually never push students to accept these kind of positions but this is a really once in a lifetime opportunity,"
I let him affect my past I can't let him affect my future too.
"No it's fine, I'll take it," I smiled to her.
Instantly she gleamed at my response, "That's wonderful, I'll send them a response right away,"
She turned to her laptop and began typing away.
What have I gotten myself into.
------
When Plendis said that they would like me to start working right away. They really meant it.
Not long after we responded we got a reply requesting me to go to their practise room straight away.
"Where is this place," I grumbled looking back at the piece of paper in my hand with the address.
I was considering asking someone when I heard my name being called.
"Nari!"
I turned around and saw that Woozi was a few metres away waving his hand to catch my attention.
I gave him a small smile and hurriedly walked up to him.
"I thought you would have trouble finding the practise room, it's pretty well hidden," he laughed gesturing to the light green door hidden behind the corner.
"Oh, thanks for coming out I would have never even looked here," I laughed back.
He opened the door to a simple room with light brown floorboards and full length mirrors on the walls.
"It's just S.Coups and I right now, the rest of the team is still in the dorm,"
I nodded as I obediently followed him to a separate room with a computer and a piano to the side, there was person I recognised as S.Coups already sitting on a couch to the side of the room writing in a small journal.
He looked up at the entrance of the room and smiled once he saw us.
"Hi Nari, nice to meet you I'm S.Coups the leader of Seventeen," he said extending his hand.
"Nice to meet you too," I smiled politely as I shook his hand.
"I'm sorry that everything was so sudden, Woozi really needed some extra help in producing since he's only been getting 4 hours of sleep because of his workload," S.Coups said sadly.
"It's okay, I understand you guys are under a lot of pressure," I assured him.
-----
Woozi and I had spent the last 3 hours writing a melody and lyrics to a new song. He sat beside me with his eyebrows furrowed while he inputted the music scores onto the laptop. I was organising some vocal arrangements when chatter began to stir from outside.
"The rest of the boys must be coming in now," Woozi commented.
"I'll take you out to meet them, you're going to have to spend a lot of time with all of them," S.Coups said as he looked up from his work.
"Are you alright with me leaving for a bit?" I asked Woozi who was still busily typing on his laptop.
"Yeah it's fine, we can do the arrangements tomorrow and you'll need to meet them sooner or later," he smiled back.
I nodded and timidly followed S.Coups out. I was greeted by s group boys who were scattered all around the room, oblivious to the new face in the their presence.
S.Coups was the first to clear his throat and almost instantly all of their eyes snapped up to meet his and then turned their gaze to look at me.
"Hey wheres Jos-" S.Coups began but was cut off when someone ran through the door.
My breath hitched at my throat, and my blood began coarsing heavily through my body.
Joshua had his hair roughly tousled and cheeks flushed from running.
"Sorry for being late I was..." his voice wavered once his eyes locked with mine.
"Nari?" he breathed out just loud enough to be audible.
Long time no see Joshua Hong.
