"Dammit." Joey Mallone mumbled under his breath staring at his notes. This was his third night in a row sitting at the table in the corner staring at those notes looking for some connection or something.
"Something wrong?" Rosa asks bringing him another cup of black coffee, no sugar, no cream, no milk, just like he gets every time he has a case.
"Thanks, doll. This case is just pretty damn stressful." Joey says tossing the notes onto the table and taking a sip of the coffee.
"Well, the shop is empty, how bout you tell me what's so stressful about it?" She asks sitting beside him.
"Some lady's son hasn't come home in three days. She hired me to find him. Trouble is no one knows why the kid would leave or where he could be. I've checked all his old haunts asked his friends, girlfriends, nothing the kid up and disappeared off the face of the earth." He says and sighs in frustration.
"Let me see." Rosa says grabbing his notes and looking at them. The kids name was John Harrow he was 17 and went to Woodside High he was a senior with scholarships lined up to go to college almost debt free got straight a's all his life. He would disappear for hours out of the day though but no one knows where, or at least no one was telling.
"What about his girlfriend, this Kaitlyn Puckett, she have any info on where he went to for hours outta the day?" Rosa asks.
"All the girl will tell me is, he walks there, since he doesn't have a car, but she claims she doesn't know where it is." Joey says.
"Well lets see he is usually gone for what 2 hours so make up a radius of where you can walk to within 2 hours and look there." She says.
"That's all fine and good ,Doll, but that's a pretty big radius, you can get a lot of places in 2 hours." Joey says.
"Well are any of his old haunts in that radius, if not then find places like where he used to hang out but inside that radius, old habits don't break easy." Rosa says.
"I'll give it a try, thanks. If I find the kid, I'll be sure to come back and tell ya." He says.
"When you find him, I think you'll owe me some dinner for helping you out." Rosa says with a smile.
"Sure, after his mom pays me I'll take ya out where ever you want ,doll." Joey says and gives her a quick peck on the cheek before gathering his notes and getting ready to leave.
"I'll hold you to that, Joey." She says. Two days later just as she was closing the shop Joey shows up.
"Well, where ya want to eat, babe, my treat." He says walking up and offering his arm for her to take.
"So I take it you found the kid." Rosa says taking his arm as they start walking.
"Yup, the kid was hiding out in some part of the sewer system. He's into this whole exploration thing, got lost down there. Stupid kid." Joey says as they walk, down the New York street.
"At least he's not dead. Who knows what he coulda run into down there." Rosa says.
"Yup, now where ya wanna eat?" Joey asks.
"Hmm, let's see I know a good italian place a few blocks down." Rosa says.
"Alright lets go." Joey says. "Listen, doll, thanks for the help, and the coffee." He says with his signature smile.
"No problem, hun." She says and kisses him quickly before they continue on their way to the restaurant.
"You know I could always use a hand with the cases, if you're interested." He says.
"Who would bring you your coffee then?" She asks jokingly.
"I have a coffee maker at home." Joey says.
"Are you offering a job, or something else." Rosa says with a smirk.
"Both if you're interested." Joey says.
"Well, this dinner better hurry up then." Rosa says.
