"The things I do for you," North grumbled as he spooned cookie dough onto the baking sheet.
Sang beamed at him, and scooped out a bit for herself, popping it in her mouth and enjoying the sweet flavor and grainy texture from the sugar. "You do them because you love me," she surely announced.
He glanced down at her and as always, was struck by how beautiful she was. Sure, he'd seen more beautiful women in his life, but his love for her and the glow that constantly emanated from her pregnant state made her the most beautiful woman in the world to him, even if she was in Silas's over sized t-shirt and a pair of sweats. He gently pulled the spoon from her grasp, "No more raw cookie dough for you."
She pouted her lips and he immediately kissed them, taking the pout away. "And no more pouting, I'm not Gabe."
Sang shrugged her shoulders and let out a dramatic sigh. She was happy, so happy. And large, so large. She was due any day and one of her loves was always by her side, on alert, ready to rush her to the Academy hospital. She couldn't wait to hold her baby in her arms and look into its eyes. To cuddle it and give it all the love a mother should give her child.
"Hey Trouble! Get your sweet ass over here!"
North rolled his eyes as Sang grinned at him and answered Meanie's call, waddling out the kitchen and down the hall to where she knew he'd be.
The nursery.
She didn't see North sneak a bite of the cookie dough as he watched her go.
She entered the enchanting room with a smile. Many a time she'd been caught just simply rocking in the cozy rocker by the crib, imagining when she'd be rocking her sweet baby, humming lullabies.
"Yes Meanie?"
He waved her over and she was immediately enveloped in his embrace, savoring the feel and giggled. "Did you have me come in for a hug?"
He tenderly kissed her forehead, so in love with the little nymph who stole his heart the first time he set eyes on her in Kota's bedroom years ago. He gave her nose a peck too. "The hug's a bonus for me, I wanted to show you what I've been working on."
Her heart leapt with excitement as she spun around in his arms to face the opposite wall. For days, a curtain had been hung across it, hiding Gabe's project and keeping her from seeing before it was finished.
"Oh, Meanie." She breathed, her hands on top of his, resting on her belly.
On the wall behind the crib had been painted a scene any fairy tale would be jealous of. There was a castle with a drawbridge, fairies, trolls that were somehow more adorable than scary, knights on horses, a dragon, mountains, a lake, and trees filled with creatures of both earth and imagination. Her eyes didn't know what to focus on, there was so much and more hidden, she was sure.
"You like it?" His voice contained a trace of the insecure teenager he'd once been.
"Oh Gabriel, it's absolutely wonderful!" Her eyes glimmered with tears and she turned back to face him, rewarding him with a kiss filled with love and appreciation for all he was.
Gabe broke the kiss and breathed heavily, pressing his forehead to hers. "We better stop or you'll be having two."
"I don't think it works that way." She chuckled.
"Maybe not, but it's kisses for the moment." He gave her a happy peck on the lips as North walked in, admiring the painting Gabe did. "Looks great, Gabe."
"Thanks." He appreciated North's praise.
"Cookies are in the oven, Baby," North absently said, his eyes raking over the detail of the dragon.
Sang's mouth watered at the mention of cookies but that halted as her belly let her know it was a bit upset. She stepped out of Gabe's arms, "I'll be right back."
His brows furrowed. "Are you okay?"
Sang nodded. "Yeah, I just have to use the bathroom."
Gabe watched her go then joined North, looking at the wall painting, pointing out the hidden creatures.
Sang hurried to the bathroom and bent over, pulling down the sweats and underwear, and instantly felt a gush of fluid between her legs. She stood frozen in shock for a moment. Did that really just happen? Her heart rate picked up as nerves took over. Spinning around with her pants around her knees, she saw the liquid covering the toilet seat. Okay, apparently this wasn't a case of upset tummy...
She stepped out of her underwear and sweats, noting they were wet as well, and gathered a bundle of toilet paper, and with shaking hands, wiped herself dry as best she could. Once satisfied, although not really caring how good a job she did, she flushed the toilet, put the clothes in the hamper, and washed her hands. Silas t-shirt was still large enough to keep her decent while she made her way back to the nursery, sans pants and underwear.
Halfway there, a cramping pain hit her like a bulldozer. Grimacing, she clutched her belly and continued on her path, letting out a pathetic whimper. Rounding the corner into the nursery, Gabe and North looked at her in confusion.
"Uh, where the f**k are your pants Trouble?" Gabe took in her pretty legs before he noticed the strained look on her face the same moment North did.
"My water broke!" she blurted.
"Holy sh*t!" They ran the few feet to her side and North scooped her up in his arms carrying her to her adjoining bedroom. Her backside was completely exposed with the action but she didn't care as another cramp garnered all her attention.
North gently laid her down on the large bed while Gabe grabbed a new pair of sweats and her hospital bag.
"It's going to be alright." North soothed, rubbing her thigh. "We're going to the hospital now."
Her green eyes went wide and her face paled as she quickly pressed a hand between her legs. "I don't think we have time," she whispered.
They all went still until North snapped out of it, removing her hand and checking for himself, spreading her legs. Gabe hurried over and leaned in to look as well. Sure enough, they could see a section of the top of baby's head the size of a silver dollar.
"Oh F**k."
