Grayson's POV.
I wake with a start, scaring my dog on the end of my bed. I rub my eyes and look at my clock. It's 6:45 and I have to be at Disneyland in 45 minutes!
"I'm never gonna make that," I say, scrambling around my room.
I decide not to gel up my hair and leave it in waves on my forehead. I put on a black t-shirt, with ripped jeans and throw on my gray converse. I run out the door and look at my watch. 6:55. There is no way for me to get there in time when I live an hour and a half away.
"You got to be kidding me," I say, speeding out of my neighborhood.
I'm about 30 minutes away and it's already 7:45. Then I remember. I almost slam into the the car in front of me.
"That dream," I say.
It seemed so real. And Ember was in it too. It had to be a dream, cause I'm here now, aren't I? I shake my head and push on the gas. The Gates open in fifteen minutes. I'm going to be fired on my second day of work.
I finally make it and run towards the Gates. I see Ember sitting in the ticket stand with her usually tan face, ghostly pale.
"Hey. You good?" I ask.
She looks at me. She blinks and nods her head. "Yes, I'm sorry. I'm fine. I just had a crazy dream last night," she says, pushing her bangs out of her eyes.
I freeze. "What kind of dream?" I ask.
"I was trapped here in Disneyland. You were there, actually. With two girls and two boys," she says, then shivers, like the memory makes her cold.
"What were the names of the other people?" I ask, shivering too.
"Um, Vanessa, Eva, Devan, and Cameron," she says. "Why?"
I shake my head. "This isn't happening," I say.
"What isn't happening?" she asks, then looks at her phone. "It's eight. People are coming. I'll talk to you at lunch."
I nod and go in. I seem to slip past Mr. Brown, my boss and go to my station. I go into the Haunted House. People begin pouring in and I begin my course. Tell them the rules, check their wristbands, and give them their stamps. This is what I do for hours on end.
Finally, my break is over and I go to find Ember. She's standing in line for lunch and I join her. I smile at her and she returns my smile.
"Hey, Grayson. What did you need to talk to me about?" she asks.
"It's bad. Like, creepy bad," I say.
We get our lunch and go sit down. I open my lunch and begin to tell her.
"So, you said that the names of the people in your dream were Vanessa, Eva, Cameron, and Evan, right?" I ask.
"Yeah, so?" she asks.
"I had the same dream. You were in it too and Vanessa and them were there," I say.
She stops eating and looks at me. "Stop playing with me, Grayson. It's not funny. That dream really scared me," Ember says.
I shake my head. "I wish I was lying, Ember. I'm not though. You have to believe me," I say.
"Sleep well?" a voice says behind me.
Ember drops her burger and I turn around in my seat. There, in front of me is Vanessa. She smiles and sits down next to me.
"Hey, Grayson, Ember. Fancy seeing you here," she says, toying with the end of her braid.
"Um, Vanessa? You were in my dream last night," Ember says.
Vanessa breaths loudly and rolls her eyes. "It's not a dream, ok? How many times do I have to tell you that?" she asks.
I shake my head and frown. "It isn't possible! Not at all," I say, getting up from my seat.
"Woah, calm down, pretty boy," Vanessa says. "I'm not lying, ok?"
Ember looks at me and sighs. "I believe her."
I look at her, shocked. "You believe her?" I ask.
"Well, it makes sense, Grayson. We all have been having the same "dreams" for a while. Well not you and me, but Vanessa, Eva, Devan, and Cameron. It just adds up," she says, avoiding eye contact.
I run a hand through my hair and sigh. "We'll see who's lying tonight when I go to sleep and don't wake up here," I say, throw away my trash, and go back to the Haunted House.
The day never seems to end, but I'm finally on my way home. Ember keeps texting me, but I'm ignoring them. She has to be crazy to believe Vanessa. Sure, it's weird we had the same dream and now Vanessa is here, but it's not possible. Some stupid prank or something. I eat dinner early that night and go to bed around 10:45. I fall asleep, smiling to myself.
I'll show them that all of this is some joke.
