Beneath the moonlight all a-glim
Two lovers swore they'd never part
For he loved her and she loved him
With all her heart, with all her heart
"Someday we'll visit far off lands,"
The young and handsome prince declared,
"And live our years out, hand in hand,
Without a care, without a care."
"And I'll be there, right by your side,
No matter where our feet attend,"
So she declared, that faithful bride,
"Unto the end, unto the end."
But lo, another watched him too
With wicked heart and jealous eye;
For him she boiled a bitter brew
to watch him die, to watch him die.
Upon the eve 'fore they took flight,
When they broke bread, his face turned pale.
As he collapsed, she cried in fright:
A deathly wail, a deathly wail.
And who should answer to her call
That awful witch, who brought the throng
They saw his body, one and all
Adjudging wrong, adjudging wrong.
She pointed forth her dreadful claw
"The princess!- the murd'rous child!"
The mob's discord of clamoring caws
Were running wild, were running wild
The princess, gaze downturned,
Unjustly sentenced for the crime,
To leave the land and ne'er return
For all of time, for all of time
So here she came, to weep, to mourn
And pine away her years alone.
With spirit spent, her mortal form
Turned into stone, turned into stone
Beneath the moonlight all a-glim
In death the two shall never part
For he loved her and she loved him
With all her heart, with all her heart
