Dez looked around the school library, looking like a lost puppy. He then saw his friend, Trish, by the computer and walked towards her.
"Hey," he greeted.
"I got your message. What's up?" Dez asked.
"I did a little digging. It turns out that yesterday was Ally's late mom's birthday. That's why she blew us off," Trish said.
"Oh wow. That's got to be tough on her," he said.
"Yeah."
"What do you want to do?" Dez asked.
"I want to help her," Trish said.
"What if she doesn't want our help? It'll be just like Austin," he asked.
"Then let's hope that Austin helps her," Trish said with a shrug.
The bell rang and the short black haired girl and the tall red head walked out of the library and went to class. During lunch, they managed to catch Ally and sit with her.
"Hey," Trish said.
"Oh hey, Trish. Dez," Ally greeted.
"Ally," Dez greeted with a nod.
"Ally, I don't want you to be mad at me..." Trish started.
Ally looked at her confusedly, "Why would I be-"
Trish cut her off, "We know about your mom and the reason why you were acting weird yesterday."
"Oh," Ally said, confusion faded.
"We'd like to help if you'd let us. You don't need to go through this alone," Trish said.
"Thanks but I'm fine."
"That's what you say but do you really mean-"
Ally cut her off, "I said I'm fine!" Ally snapped.
Trish shut her mouth before she could say anything else. Ally's facial expression softened as she let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you," Ally quickly said.
"I'm not that person anymore. At least, I try not to be," Ally explained.
"Trish, I'd love for you to help and I'm grateful that you want to but I have to deal with this on my own," Ally said.
"I hope you understand," she added.
"No, of course," Trish said.
"I get it," she added.
"If you really want to help me, you should help me get through the rest of high school. Classes and stuff," Ally said.
Trish let out a nervous chuckle, "Ha, no. That's not my thing."
"I know, but we're still friends, right?" Ally asked.
"Yeah," Trish said with a smile.
Ally smiled back. While watching her new friends talk, Ally felt a sudden chill go down her back. She turned her head and found Austin, sitting in the far corner of the cafeteria, alone. Ally gave him a slight wave which he completely ignored. Instead, he gathered his things and walked away. Ally watched him leave.
"Hey, don't worry about that," Ally heard a voice.
She blinked and then realized that it was Trish.
"Huh?"
"I said don't worry about it. Austin does that to people."
"Do you know why?"
