My body ached and groaned, joints on fire and eyes scarlet with veins surrounding the hazel pupils.
From behind the closed door, a ringing began in the hallway.
A call.
I begrudgingly dragged myself from my bed into the hallway. I didn't care who it was.
But as I read the first word on the machine, a smile formed on my face before slowly being taken away by the second.
"Riley (Client)"
I grasped the device and flung it across the room. Glass and plastic covered the floor after the booming impact.
"Riley..."
Where did you go?
I thought...
...
...Why was I so stupid?
