The roaring waves swept back and forth along the sandy shoreline of the beach as the day slowly turned into a deep blue night. I felt the cold dry sand underneath me, scooting closer to the nice burning fire igniting inside the stone pit and felt the warm red flannel blanket wrapped around my shoulders given to me by Jordan. We were spending our last night together here before heading back to the apartment, where both Anne and Jon were spending their last moments together until the next time. This weekend with the Knight Brothers became one huge roller coaster ride for both Anne and I.
During their visit, Anne felt embarrassed about her New Kids posters, most of them of Jonathan hanging on her walls as she didn't have time to remove every single one. Jon thought it was cute the way she tried to hide each one and make it look like she had a mature bedroom. He didn't mind it though, actually he was flattered to see himself on her bedroom walls. Jordan always wondered what my room was like here in Berkeley after always sneaking into my room back home in Boston. My room wasn't very impressive, it looked the same as the one back home just smaller with the walls painted white, a few of my favorite posters of him plastered on my walls, and a framed picture of us with the rest of the group at the Foxboro concert that summer on my nightstand. Recently, I placed it there once I found the perfect frame, only hiding it in and my desk drawer when friends come over. Jordan thought my bedroom was pretty dope though, he said it was cute and was relieved to see I was still his favorite New Kid, which made me laugh.
On the first night, it was clear that the brother will bunk in our rooms, Jonathan stayed in Anne's room while Jordan stayed in mine. And I felt pretty bad for them, when Jordan's behavior with me in bed was rather...loud. I tried to tell him to keep his voice down, but it became slightly difficult for him to cooperate. Anne's room was across the hallway and the walls weren't really sound proof either, so I felt really embarrassed when I greeted them in the morning. I'm not sure if they have done it yet, there was no reason for them to get pressure into it though and I think they were going to wait once both felt it was right.
When we took both of them to see the streets of Berkeley, Jon and Jordan had to be very careful because if anyone recognizes two members of New Kids on the Block out in public pandemonium would break out. Fortunately, with a little creativity from both Anne and I, we invented pretty good disguises for the brothers with only sunglasses and hats to complete the look. Probably, not the best, but it was the best we could've done. We drove them to the Berkeley campus to show them where we go to school, but remained in Anne's car because it was a Friday where students, mostly females, flooded the campus and it would be too risky putting them in danger like that. Afterwards, we took the brothers down to our favorite hangouts on Solano Avenue, Anne and I enjoyed shopping with Jon and Jordan for clothes from the different apparel outlets, especially when they were finding things for their siblings and mother, Marlene. Then we spent some time browsing inside Pegasus Books, and later grabbed coffee at Peet's, actually Anne, Jordan and Jon did, I was the only one who ordered tea. We drove back to the apartment, cooking up a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs for our boyfriends instead of ordering pizza, as we wanted to do something nice for them and also avoiding anyone who figures out that our guests were two members of the New Kids.
The waves roared louder in my head, as I looked back on the weekend and wished it didn't have to end so soon. Last night in bed, Jordan talked more about the new album coming out next month, it was called, No More Games: The Remix Album. It was a collection of songs from their Hangin' Tough and Step By Step albums fused with more hip-pop and urban dance elements into it. He also told me that they teamed up with David Cole and Robert Clivilles from C&C Music Factory to help produce the new album and that was pretty cool. I was excited to listen to their new album and Jordan promised to send me a copy when it's released. We talked about the Amnesty International concert in Chile and how I was really proud of him and the other guys for making a difference for human rights. But, he didn't want to keep talking about anything New Kids related, it wasn't what was important at the moment. So, I began to tell Jordan about the things going on in my life, how school is starting to get hectic because of finals week coming up in two months and what my plans were after I get my Bachelors at Berkeley. To me, it sounded boring because my life couldn't compare to how different his life was like now, but to Jordan, he loved hearing about my mundane life. It made him feel normal again.
