Chapter 12
"What do you bloody mean I can't go in there?! He's my brother!"
The look on Professor McGonagall's face was stern but her eyes were soft as she looked at Sirius. Remus and Peter stood next to him, nodding their heads adamantly.
"I am sorry, Mr Black, but I cannot let you in yet. Madam Pomfrey and the other Healers need peace and quiet when they... when they're trying to do their best and save lives."
"Screw them! I need to see my brother! Please Professor, at least tell me that he's not badly hurt. Please."
"I am sorry, Mr Black, but you need to stay here. Mr Potter will be fine before you even know it."
"And Lily?" Asked Alice from behind of Sirius.
"Miss Evans was unconscious when she arrived but she had no evident physical injuries."
Alice nodded, chewing her lip and gripping Frank's hand in hers. Her fiancé drew her into a comforting hug.
Marlene was sitting on the floor outside of the Hospital Wing, sobbing softly and leaning her head into her hands, her bright neon orange lipstick smeared on her face.
Lily and Frank stood next to Alice and Frank (the senior, obviously), silently listening and not saying a word. Lily knew that her grandparents would be just fine, because they had to be. They just had to. This attack, it had nothing to do with her being there, nothing to do with her encouraging Lily about James. Or at least, that's what she told herself, over and over again.
They all turned to look when they heard a loud bang from the corridor and not a second later an elderly couple stormed towards them. The man, she noticed, was tall and thin with black, unruly hair and glasses that almost fell off his face as he practically ran towards the Hospital Wing. The woman also had a black hair, as dark as a raven. Normally her face could have looked kind and gentle, but now she had a fierce look in her eyes and her mouth was pursed thin.
"You step aside Minerva McGonagall because I am seeing my son right now whether you like it or not. So for Morgana's sake don't make me fight you, because I will not hold back or stop before I see him."
"Dorea, Charlus," Professor McGonagall nodded her head towards the couple.
"Minerva," the man nodded back politely, but he seemed as eager as his wife to get inside the Hospital Wing.
"Mum!" They could hear Sirius yelling.
"Hello, Sirius. I'm so glad you weren't hurt, darling, I don't know what I would do if both of my boys were hurt. And hello, Remus and Peter." The woman, Dorea as Lily now knew, hugged Sirius tightly. These were her great-grandparents. Holy Merlin and Morgana.
"You can go in, but please stay out of the Healers' way, they are just doing their job," Professor McGonagall sighed and stepped aside. The Potters hurried in. Sirius was right behind them, determined to see James but the Professor stopped him, shaking her head.
"There is nothing you can do, Mr Black. They will let you see him as soon as he is well enough."
Sirius stared at the older woman, who stared right back at him.
"Go back to your Common Room, Mr Black. You need sleep, you all do. I will personally come and get you if there's any change, I'll give you my word."
