Grace
We finish our lunch and head towards the same locked door that lead us to the forest. We grab the same gear and jackets and head up to the outside. This was usuall, eat lunch, go train. I have been getting better at fighting, but everyone else is way farther than me. I been working with knives, and I'm good at those. I can never load a gun fast enough to save my life though. Everytime I look around, I'm amazed how the world has changed the way it did. There has to be more people out there like us. I'm knocked from my my thoughts when Mark slaps Keller on the back and says, "Buck up, buttercup" Keller laughs and heads toward the rest of us.
"I want to see what you can do, just a preliminary check to see what we have to work on." He points at Junie, "Hit me with your best shot, Ginger." Junie walks up to Mark, slaps him, and when he counter-attacks, she ducks and trips him to the ground, and she walks back to the group. I gulp. She just took down a trained Lieutenant in, like, five seconds. Mark recomposes himself (probably not all of his pride, though)and gestures to Danny and me. I know what this means. We walk up to face each other, my knees shaking, knowing he could kill me with one blow if he really wanted to. He looks at Mark uncertainly, and Mark nods. "If you hurt her, she'll be fine, we have wonderful doctors here." I look at Keller with a fear creeping into me. Jackson, one of the most revered doctors here, almost killed me because of his carelessness to check my allergies. Keller has, what I guess, the same look on his face as me. My mind races. What to do, what to do. Daniel swings and I duck, by instinct. I watch his eyes, remembering from a movie that you could tell when an opponent is going to strike by their eyes. I see them falter, in a way, and I lock my arms against a tree and kick; Well, I really just pushed him backwards with my feet. He regains himself and comes and towers above me, and I can see he's going to end it. I almost feel like I shrank three times my size. I look up at him in horror, and then, he realizes what he was about to do and he withdraws slowly. I sit down on the ash and take deep breaths, and remind myself not to get Daniel angry.
Keller
I never saw Danny like that before. He looked like he could kill. He looked over to me in horror, and then to Grace, who was scrunched up against the tree looking up at him with wide eyes, her mouth forming a small "o". Mark frowned, and then grabbed something out of his bag. It was a clipboard and a bottle of pills. He turned to Daniel.
"Have you been angered very easily lately?"
"I don't think so" he says. I look at Mark.
"I know I was, and Junie was, too, but I just figured it was her 'time of the month'". I smirk at her and she whacks me on the head. She speaks through gritted teeth.
"It is NOT my time of the month" We just burst out laughing. Mark stays silent and hands us each a pill from the orange perscription bottle. I grab my water bottle and swallow it, and the others do the same. I ask Mark:
"Why weren't these administered before?" Mark looks sheepish for a moment, and finally decides to answer the question.
"We don't really have the best doctors here." Grace snorts at that, and I don't blame her.
"I never would have guessed." she says, her words just oozing of sarcasm. I almost would've laughed, if I didn't see the lieutenant's face, which, let's just say, was not pleased. He glared at her while he was speaking at me. She kicked some ash with her black boots.
"How about since everyone has their 'behavioral' pills," he smirked at his own joke, " How about we just redo the simulation? No superpowers or anything like that, okay?" Everyone murmurred in agreement, and Mark handed out the needles and anticeptic. I carefully lift up the black sleeve to my jacket and press the plunger and inject the medicine. I look over at Grace, and she smiles at me weakly while all four of us black out again.
Grace
I wake up in a tree. How the heck, did I get here? I must be about twenty feet in the air. The ground seems to grow farther away and I blink. I lock my arms and legs around the branch tightly and squeeze my eyes shut. I don't know how long I've been up there, but I hear someone walking by and I see it's Keller. A small squeak comes from the back of my throat. I don't know how he heard me, but he did and he relaxes when it's me.
"Why don't you come on down?" he says. I smile and attempt to come down, but then I remember my predictament, and stay put.
"I can't" He laughs.
"Then how did you get up there?"
"I woke up here" He looks at me in disbelief, then shakes it off.
"Jump down"
"ARE YOU CRAZY?" He places his index and thumb fingers about two centimeters apart.
"This much" I smile, but I'm not jumping out of this tree. He sighs, and says:
"Okay, remember in Biology class when we studied how cats land on all fours?" I nod my head and he continues," Well, they land on all fours, because the tension is spread out, so they're not injured. I need you to do the same, but you need to roll when you land." I hesitate, but then I jump, doing exactly as he says and rolling when I land. My wrists and ankles sting, but otherwise, I'm okay. I look over at him.
"Thanks."
"No problem, want to team up?" I agree, and I tell him that no one has found the flag, because a cannon goes off everytime someone has possession of it. He nods.
"Let's go there" he points to Base 8.
"Won't people see us, though?"
"I guess we'll just find out" We head to the hatch in the gound and climb inside. He helps me down and I start walking down the halls. I hear Keller following me and stop to look at him. He was standing in front of a door, where voices were coming through. The people in the cafeteria are oblivious to us, and I actually walk through Alex. I grin when she shivers. I'mma ghost! I laugh to myself and Keller looks at me curiously and gestures to the door again. I go over to the door and listen. It was Layland and Mark.
"Are they in the simulation?" I look at Keller again, but he's intent on listening to the conversation.
"Yes, sir, permission bring in the next phase of the training?"
"Permission granted." We hear a click. And that's when the people start screaming in the cafeteria.
Ha ha ha ha!!! I have successfully created a cliffhanger!!!!
