Chapter One:
Reading. It was the one thing I loved to do before 'it' happened. Oh. You don't know what 'it' is, do you? Well, reading was my passion. I couldn't stop. Everyone called me the Queen of Reading. But, one day, I went somewhere on holiday, and I wandered about town. I came across a book store and I excitedly went inside, thinking of all the books I could buy. Everything seemed fine, until I started to read a good-looking book. This particular book was called 'A History of the Future.' Yes, it sounds odd, doesn't it, but that is truly what it was called! So...where was I? Oh, yes, well I started to read the first page and everything seemed okay until I looked up. I looked up, and I wasn't in that little bookstore anymore. I was in a strange city, with flashing lights. One half of the city was bright and cheerful, but the people were in dark blue and grey clothes, and one half was gloomy and dark, but people were in glossy white and yellow clothes. It was actually quite frightening. I strained my neck towards the sky and I saw a banner right in front of me that said 'Welcome to THE FUTURE.'
Chapter Two:
I am in the future now. And there is nothing I can do to go back. I haven't introduced myself, have I? My name is Star and i'm 16 years old. Well - I turned 16 yesterday, actually. I used to have a younger sister called Hope. My Mum, Zoë is a nail artist and my Dad, Mark has his own business.
So, back to business, I have been told to go to a great hall to figure out which 'side' of the city I will live in. I don't like this, really. It's just...the people look weird and the houses look extremely modern, but it is the future I suppose. It's scary to think that this is our future. I think I'll go to this hall and maybe i'll like it more.
I cautiously stolled along the street and came to a very tall building with a banner on that quoted 'Our towns shall live in peace forever, unless a new ruler shall take over.' I nervously walked inside and a woman grabbed my arm. I must've looked frightened, because she said to me
"Come here, don't be worried. Just follow me. We're going to see which side of town you will live in."
I quickly walked behind the woman and we entered a small room with a desk and some paper.
"Don't worry you'll be fine."
Chapter Three:
"My name is Alyssa. You can call me Al if you like. So, do care more about your appearance or your culture?"
I wasn't really sure what to say so I muttered:
"I'm not sure. Um...by the way - my name is Star."
Alyssa just stared at me. I don't think she wanted that kind of answer.
"Look, I don't want to have to do the full test on you because people just come out scared about this place. Just tell me- looks or culture." Alyssa seemed calm at this moment, so I just blurted out an answer.
"Culture!" I said, a bit too loudly.
Alyssa looked at me with a strange look again and sat down at her desk. She started writing something really fast on the small piece of paper.
It seemed like hours before she talked to me again. I was just stood there doing nothing until her voice made me jump.
"Come here." Alyssa's voice sounded stern and I thought
'What's happened now?!'
I stepped slowly across the room and stood opposite her desk. Al's face had gone pale and her deep blue eyes looked scared.
"You're going to have to take the full test." She said, with a slight wobble in her voice.
