To get trophies is easy. Use barbs to get 50% and then end the battle. Then of course for defense protect your town hall. I like to keep the town hall and storages in the middle.
Remember, upgrade your walls to keep out the giants and such. They are REALLY pesky.
Also, a good way to 3 star someone's base is to use giants and healers/healing spells.
