To Do Item #6: Say Goodbye to Normal

"Think of all the joy you’ll find when you leave the world and bid your cares goodbye.” –Peter Pan

For the remainder of the ride, we all celebrated that we were able to successfully pick a name for our little island. Viviana. I wasn’t sure if it was possible to have an entire island named after a city, but that wasn’t a thought right now.  It was exciting just to get this far.

Since our island was just wild uninhabitable land at the current moment, there was absolutely no way that we would be able to land a jet plane on it. Not for a while anyway.  So were forced to make a pit stop.

The airport in Costa Rica was humid and the windows were allowing in a blinding amount of sunlight that just added to the fact that it was over 100*F in this room. We has all gotten off of the plane and were smacked in the face with heat that is never felt by the native New Yorker, and it made me dizzy.

“You know, when I first imagined going to a place as exotic as Costa Rica, I didn’t imagine my first thought being about how bad my armpits sweat,” Dylan said while sniffing his armpits to his face and making a face.

“Well apparently they don’t smell good either idiot,” Madison replied, disgusted.

I was too hot to even move my lips. My pink polka dot summer dress was starting to stick to my legs. Goodness I hated sweating. Everyone pretty much spread out, trying to see who would be able to stay the coolest.

Jordan however plopped down next to me and put his sweaty head on my shoulder. Apparently, he didn’t understand that a lack of contact was the best way to keep cool.

“Jaslyn.”

“Yes Jordan?”

“I’m hot.”

“So get the hell off,” I tried pushing him off of me, but he was too heavy and I was too tired so I slumped backward in the seat. I can only hope the sweat wouldn’t act as a super glue to keep me attached to the chair. That would suck.

“Everything on the plane just has to be loaded onto the yacht, then we can go,” he said, his voice sounding raspy from dehydration.

“You have your own yacht too,” I asked, though not surprised.

“Yeah…it’s not as impressive as it could be though,” he replied.

We stood quiet for a few minutes, the heat had drained all of the energy and excitement from our bodies. Everyone probably expected that when we landed in Costa Rica we could probably do some souvenir shopping or go to the beach. However, it was probably forgotten that we were pretty damn close to the equator and that our island was even closer.

“Jordan.”

“Yeah  Jaslyn?”

“We’re not going to have any AC when we get to Viviana are we? Just by any chance?”

Jordan looked at me like I was stupid. “Um, no.”

“So we are going to be like this until we get electricity…and an actual building to live in?”

It was written all over his face that this was the first he had ever thought of that, but of course he acted like he had it covered. “Well, I mean that’s pretty obvious Jas. Don’t worry though, with all the supplies and people that will be joining us within the week, we’ll be in the cool rather quickly.”

I only shook my head at him; I highly doubted we could build something that wouldn’t topple down on top of us within a week, but I wasn’t in the mood to argue. He smirked. “What? Can’t handle a little bit of mother nature?”

“Mother nature is not so much my problem. Her little creepy crawlies are.”

“Don’t worry Jaslyn. Your bug slaying knight in shining armor is here.”

“Jaslyn and Jordan, wake the hell up!”

Next thing I knew Madison was splashing, admittedly refreshing, water all over my nice dress and Rose was laughing behind her, I’m assuming to keep herself safe.

“What the FUCK,” Jordan yelled while jumping up, which caused him to smack me in the face with one of his flailing hands. He turned back and gave me an apologetic look, then turned to death glare at my friends.

“The massive boat is here to bring us to the island. I was willing to leave you guys since you knocked out and wouldn’t get your lazy asses up, but everyone got mad that I suggested such a thing, since you guys started this,” Madison deadpanned.  I could only shake my head, which caused little water drops to fall of my face. She really would do that if it were up to her.

“Really? You would leave me, the one with all the money and hook ups, stuck in Costa Rica! I …”

“Alrighty there snippy calm the hell down,” I said, placing a hand on Jordan’s chest in an attempt to calm him down.

I exited the airport with Madison, Jordan, and Rose at my side and the air seemed to get hotter, as if that was even freaking possible. Luckily though, it was a short walk to the dock area where the most massive and expensive looking boat in the world was.  Just how rich was this kid?

Once we reached where everyone else was, Jordan pulled me back. “So she was really serious about leaving us?”

“Oh calm down it’s not like it was actually going to happen. That’s just the way she is. Trust me, it actually gets amusing after a while.”

He shook his head, then took my hand and guided me to the center of the group. It appeared to have expanded, now it included more adults and some other teens. I assumed they were from the other boats next to Jordan’s, and that they would help us out with Viviana as well. We could use it.

Once we reached thecenter of the group, the side conversations came to a halt, and everyone looked to Jordan.“Alright people. I just want to make a few things clear. First off, this is the last time your cell phones will have any use for a while.  And your laptops. And anything that requires a charger. Just felt that needed to be clarified. Also, from here on in, you will be expected to be a helpful member of Viviana. No we are not going to be slaves, but we will need hard work to get to where we want to be and to where the other countries in the world will take us seriously. At this point, we’re just seen as a child throwing some type of a fit against mommy. But now that we have the ability to do what we want, we have to make something with it. In other words, kiss what you know goodbye ladies and gentlemen. It’s time to make something new.”
