The next two periods went pretty normal. I didn't dare try to control time again, very well knowing that it is a very dangerous thing that truly should not be toyed with. I'd have seen enough time travel movies to have known that. It was now lunch period. I sat down at the table that I usually sit at for lunch. I'm always the first one there. This table wasn't in the cafeteria but outside the school in the back. I very much enjoyed this spot. It had a nice amount of shade from a nearby tree and it was almost always quiet. I watched as the trees bare branches bobbed up and down from the gentle breeze. I see my friends approaching. Nelson, Alex, Emanuel, and Matthew(whom I mentioned earlier) were some of my best friends. All of them except for Matthew went to a Catholic high school not too far from here. Their break was around the same time as ours so we always hung out together for lunch. "Hey Logan! How's it going?" Alex asked cheerfully. Alex was shorter than I was. He had short brown hair that always looked very well taken care of. He was also the first friend I made once I moved to his elementary school about 5 years ago. I laughed. "Terribly!" I answered. I got a few  looks of confusion from my friends. "Uh...you seem awfully happy about that? Should we be concerned?" Emanuel asked. Emanuel was always a very supportive friend of mine. He was a huge war history nerd. "Yes..." I said grimly. "Very...very concerned." All of them looked very afraid. Except for Matthew. For some reason I got a look that I determined was pity. I had no idea why though. 'Could it perhaps be that he somehow already knows?' I thought. But that was impossible. I'd have never told nobody about what happened. I just tossed the thought aside. "Well...what happened then?" Nelson dared to speak. Nelson was a mechanical genius. He loved learning about how things work and how to build things. He was about my height and had black hair. I considered whether or not to tell them. I finally decided that I should. They were my best friends so I knew that I could trust them. I smiled. "Your gonna think I'm crazy if I tell you." Nelson shook his head. "I promise I won't." I looked him in the eyes. Then I looked at the rest of my friends, all of them were looking at me expecting me to speak. I sighed. "Fine..." I said. "I...I found out that I can stop time." They all just stared at me for a couple seconds. Finally Alex said. "Prove it!" I shrugged. "If you say so!" I snapped my fingers. Time froze. I walked behind Alex and put his backpack on the other side of him. I snapped my fingers again and time started moving. "Boo!" I said loudly. They all jumped. Alex fell forward from the unexpected weight of his backpack now on his front. Emanuel ducked for cover. Nelson screamed. And Matthew went to go hit me as a nervous reflex. Before he hit me I stopped time so I could dodge it. When I started time again Matthew looked confused as to why I wasn't hit. I smiled mischievously. "Cool huh?" Alex, who was still on the ground, said in a voice muffled by the ground, "Hell yeah!" But it sounded more like "Herl yer!" Nelson had a shocked look on his face as well as Emanuel. Alex got up. "But...why?" He asked brushing himself off. I shrugged. "That's the thing. I don't know." Alex looked disappointed. "I was hoping that you would show me how to do it..." I shook my head. "Nope. All I do is snap my fingers and time just...stops." Alex cheered up. He snapped his fingers hoping that he too could stop time by doing so. The result was terrifying. Almost instantaneously, Alex burst into flames. Everyone, including me, jumped back in surprise of our dear friend's spontaneous combustion. Alex, however, did not seem to be in pain. He was just very confused and afraid. "U-Uh...Guys?" He said. "I um...don't think this is n-normal..." Nelson ran over to a fire hydrant nearby. At first he tried to open it with his hands. Then tried kicking it repeatedly. After that failed he just looked at us and shrugged. Then, the fire hydrant exploded. A jet of high-pressure water came shooting towards Nelson. He held out his hands and closed his eyes while bracing for an impact that would never come. The water bent around him in an arched around him then continued on it's original path once around him. Nelson opened his eyes and was shocked at what he was doing. He was controlling the water. He carefully aimed the water at Alex. Once Alex was doused Nelson stopped the water. We all stared at each other in amazement of what had just happened. Now, the true story begins...
