Amelia’s P.O.V.

I still can’t believe it. I see the five of them standing in front of me, but it still feels surreal. I know my father has final approval on all the speakers and performers at these benefits, and I just can’t believe he would have chosen One Direction. He grew up in an era when groups like The Eagles and Journey were popular, and according to him, “They just don’t make music like that anymore.” He’s quick to dismiss any modern act because of their “falsified talent”, which is why I’ve got to be careful who I speak about around him.

“So why are you lads here so early?” Lads? What on Earth am I thinking? I’m certainly not British, and now they probably think I’m trying too hard. Great going, self.

Louis is quick to answer. “We’re soundchecking in an hour or so. We only just found out about this the other day, so we’ve got time to make up for.”

“Whoa, I think you need to slow down there a bit you speed demon.” Zayn has a small, devious smirk on his face as he glances at his bandmate. “Why don’t you give us all a chance to speak with her?”

“Oh, um…what do you mean? Of course. Go right ahead.” Louis is flustered and I can pick up on that easily. If I’ve inherited one good trait from this whole President’s daughter thing, it’s that I’ve got a knack for reading people when I really try. I owe that to the countless hours of watching old debates and sitting in with my father when he prepares for interviews.

“I think the real question here is what are you doing up this early?” Harry asks. “My word, I would think that you of all people would get to sleep in.”

“I wish. Sleeping in for me is ten o’clock, and that’s if there isn’t anything to prepare for. I’ve been placing things on all the tables and I was changing the curtains when you guys came in. Believe me, they put everyone to work here!”

Before I can go on, I see a large man walk into the room that I recognize as Paul, their security guard. It’s rather difficult to be a fan of theirs and not know who he is, especially when you’ve got a Twitter account. I admit, I probably spend a bit more time on there than I should, but can you blame me? Between my college work and the duties that come with helping my father, I need a bit of a stress reliever.

“Boys, you need to go get changed so we can go over your schedules for the next few days.” He speaks firmly, but not harshly. He glances at me before he says, “Oh, good morning to you, Miss O’Hare. I appreciate you and your father having the boys here.”

“I wish I could take credit for it, sir! I only just found out this morning. I’m as pleased as you are.” I’m not quite sure how to speak to him. He does hold a position of authority, yet at the same time, he seems like a rather casual person.

“Believe me miss, I’ve never done anything to warranted being called sir!” A loud, boisterous laugh erupts from him, and he’s smiling. “But I appreciate what you said. People your age don’t tend to have a lot of respect for adults.”

“I definitely agree with you. My mother always used to tell me that I was a rare breed.”

He stops for a moment at the mention of my mother. I’m confused for a moment until I remember what day it is, and that he and the boys have probably had the situation explained to them. “Well your mother was a very smart woman, Miss O’Hare.” He gives me a simple, respectful nod before turning back to the boys. “Let’s go on now and leave her to her work. We’ve got a lot to do ourselves.”
