"Adam, Adam." He was shaken awake by someone calling out his name. His open eyes were met with a bright ceiling light and his skin was camped in the plastic sheets. "Adam it's me Jamie." A friendly looking boy leaned over the side of the bed so he could see his face. It was his best friend Jamie, green eyes and beautiful blonde hair.

"Oh hi" he replied, his voice was weak yet it had as much joyfulness in it as any other. He reached out and touched his friends face, he had to make sure it wasn't a dream again. Almost everywhere in his body ached, especially his chest. He couldn't move his toes, he hadn't been able to in months.

"They found a heart for you bro" Jamie told him with a big smile. Adam's face moulded into a giant smile that reached his cheeks.

"That's fantastic!" He tried to laugh and started to cough before lying his head back down onto the pillow. He pose him a cup of water as he drank it slowly.

"You'll be good as new" Jamie said with a small smile, "you can walk to school again, you can go back to your studying, you can get your dream job." Jamie brushed the loose hair out of his face as he sat on the side of the bed.

"We can go to Jacob's birthday party!" Adam beamed up at him. Jamie gave a shaky sigh and nodded his head slowly.

"Yeah, we can go to the party..." he said softly his voice trailing off at the end. He gave a small smile with soft eyes. The door behind them opened and a nurse quietly steeped though.

"It's time" she announced softly. Jamie gave a quick glance at her then back to his friend.

"Bye." He gave him a soft fist bump and slid from the bed landing n the floor softly. He made his way to the door stopping and giving a slow wave before disappearing behind the wall.

Adam slowly awoke from his successful operation. He immediately felt better and as if he could just get up and run away. Well almost. He sat up and moved his arms and found there was minimal pain. He could finally move. He pulled himself to the side of the bed and let his legs dangle over the side. The breathed deeply, mentally preparing himself for what was to come next. He slid down, his bare feet meeting with the cold floor. An odd sensation ran up his leg as he placed all of his weight down. For a moment he was scared, that something may go wrong, but it didn't. His face lit up and he smiled. He was standing up. He moved one leg forwards still holding onto his bed railing. He chucked to himself a bit. He was walking. He began to move faster and let go of the railing. With a step or two he felt as if he may have fallen over yet he kept his balance. He walked around his room almost as if he was back to normal. He felt so great being able to move again. 'I must tell Jamie!' he thought to himself. The walked to the door and flung it open. The halls were busy with dozens of nurses moving through them. He started to quickly walk towards the waiting room, his walk soon turned to a jog, and his jog turned to a run. He was so happy, so long it had been since he had moved like this. Jamie would be so glad to see him like this. He entered the waiting room and looked around. He couldn't see him anywhere. He walked up to the reception desk and peered over to the lady sitting behind it.

"Have you seen Jamie?" he asked in a soft voice, "he's 14, same height as me, with scruffy blond hair?" The lady turned to him with a blank expression yet her eyes saddened when she seen Adam standing before here.

"Oh Adam, you were told who the donor was, weren't you?" The smile washed from his face and tears flooded his eyes. His new heart sunk and his throat tightened. His hand reached up to his chest and brushed over the stitches that lay there. Tears rushed from his eyes as he felt as if he was going to collapse to the floor. His sobs were loud as he covered his face with his hands.

"No! Jamie no!" he cried loudly . The lady stood up and reached his hand out to comfort him. He ignored this, turning away and sprinting down the hall. He raced to the bathroom, locking the door and throwing himself against the wall. Tears continued to stream down his cheeks as he screamed loudly. He held his hand to his chest in which now was beating the heart of his best friend. He pulled himself away from his phase of pain and caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. It reflected his red and tear saturated face. He walked up to it and placed both his hands on the basin. As he stared he seen two green eyes and a friendly smile which did not belong to him. The vision slowly faded, turning back to his red swollen eyes and panicked face.

"I will always be with you, I love you Adam..." A voice whispered through his head before leaving him in the dark and silence of his distressed mind.
