Jade's P.O.V.

"Mommy?" Sebastian's voice broke me from my writing. He was napping next to me with Miracle but she was still sound asleep with her little yellow bunny in her arms.

"Yes baby. What's wrong?" I smiled sweetly to assure him everything was alright but his face didn't change from frightened.

"Where's daddy?" He looked at me with sad eyes. He must have had a nightmare.

"He's searching other apartments for food so we don't have to leave. Why pumpkin?"

"I had a bad dream that the Sombeez got him."

He called them 'Sombeez' because someone spelt it that way in a safe room we had stopped at after the first month when he was learning to spell little words and he's called them that ever since. It's cute for his age so no one corrects him. He'll learn what they really are called as he gets older and bigger.

"Honey, daddy is fine. Would you like some water?"

He nodded so I got up and I covered Miracle up so she wouldn't get cold and locked the door behind me. We continue to be extremely cautious. Sebastian and Miracle are so precious so we keep them locked in room if we plan to move so they stay safe. I double checked the locks on the doors, still worked. We've had to replace them since we got here because of the constant locking and unlocking. Everything was quiet except for the soft humming from the radio that we leave on just in case any other survivors are out there they can find us. We keep in tuned to channel 1 so it's easy. We've only had one survivor channel us and last we knew he was on his way here from a few cities over. I'm not sure where we are. Dara and Mason know though. I didn't bother to ask because it doesn't matter. I pulled an old milk jug out that was now holding water and filled a few small bottles full of water and put them in our cooler full of snow and water bottles and the few jugs we managed to find in apartments that weren't molding or solidly filled with milk. We have our packs and suitcases ready in case we have to bolt. We're on the first floor so we can get out to our truck easily. We each carry a blanket, flashlight, multiple first aid kits, lots of water and food, and clothing. we have three trucks. One's an old beater, the other two are large semis because they were easy to get off the highway. The beater is Mason's. The bed of Mason's is filled with gasoline cans and two coolers of water bottles. If we ever need to dash we plan to take his truck and one semi. The keys are in the ignitions and ready to go. We're thinking about leaving since there's nothing here anymore. We're almost out of food and we've cleared out every infected except for Stella, Dara's niece.

"Sebastian, unlock the door for mommy please." I was the only one here with them so it was very quiet besides the soft sound the door made as it opened. I handed him the bottle of water and gulped it down. It was then we heard the gunshot from the open window and heard Stella's screaming.
