So, here's chapter one! Feedback is welcome but please don't kill me if I don't update right away. If I royally mess up the grammar, please let me know so I can fix it right away. Thanks!

...

I start out of sleep when my alarm screams at me, announcing that 8:00 has come on possibly the worst Saturday of my life.

I slip out from underneath the blankets on my bed and rise to get dressed. I pull out a t-shirt, a pair of athletic shorts, and Nike socks. Then I grab my suitcase from beside my door and make my way downstairs.

The smell of cooking meat and eggs wafts toward the front door where I set my suitcase. I follow the glorious scent of breakfast to the kitchen where my mom is watching a video on "how to make the perfect sunny-side-up eggs".

"Good morning, Sunshine! Ready for a big, big day?", she asks, already giddy with excitement.

I sigh and sit down at the counter,"Yeah, I'm totally ready for spending my entire summer with a bunch of rednecks."

She turns away from the stove and gives me a disapproving glare. "For your information, young man, Clara and her family are quite nice, actually, so watch what you say."

"Yeah, yeah, okay." I say as she turns back toward the stove and resumes preparing breakfast.

A few minutes later, I'm stuffing my face with eggs and toast. After we're done eating, we load the car with my suitcase and head for the mountains.

I don't realize I've fallen asleep until Mom shakes me awake. She turns off the main highway and onto a dirt road.

"Now, Ben, you need to know some things about Clara and her family," Mom says," Her husband disappeared about seven years ago. No one has heard from him since then, so don't ask about him."

I nod absentmindedly, giving most of my attention to the branches and leaves above the car.

"She has a daughter. Paige, Payton, something like that. She should be about your age, actually, but don't be surprised if she's a little different than the girls at your school, okay? Ben?" she turns in her seat and glares at me," Are you listening?"

I roll my eyes and turn to face her,"Yes, mother, I am giving you my full, undivided attention and am absorbing this highly important information about a family of rednecks that I will be spending my entire summer with."

She sighs and returns her attention to the road," You'd better be."

I roll my eyes and stare out my window at the never-ending woods. The green foliage swallows us as we continue down the road.

...

So, short update! Sorry! Been a busy busy busy monkey! Hope you enjoyed! I will be splitting this into two parts, so this is part one, just to clarify.
