4. Enoch

A few years passed by the loop, and Victor and Olive were Enoch's closest friends. They would help him with his dolls and they would watch them fight.

The three of them would always be together in their morning walks, with Olive watching over the younger ones while they hiked around Cairnholm. He liked Olive being around now, and he was used to her presence. If Victor was out taking care of his little sister, Olive was there for him.

Whenever something caused him to be upset, she would ask him what's wrong, though he would end up being sour towards her too. Sometimes he would go too far and make her cry, though it wasn't something he did on purpose. So even if he wasn't one to apologize, he would say sorry to her afterwards.

He didn't realize it, but he opened up to her much more now. They would talk about their lives before the loop, their favorite things and so on.

Then there was Emma.

Enoch had a fairly good relationship with her, and as well as with Abe. But he would feel something... a feeling that would come whenever he saw them.

"Jealousy," Victor cleared it up for him, when they once talked about Enoch's feelings for Emma. He didn't know how they ended up talking about this, and he badly wanted to talk about something else.

Enoch scoffed. "And why would I be jealous?" Even though it was obvious, Enoch still didn't admit it out loud.

"Because you like Emma," Olive said.

Enoch hated to admit it, but his two closest friends were right. He did like Emma. But he never thought of stealing her from Abe, because Enoch knew that she loved him. And that hurt a lot.

He wished... he wished he could feel the happiness they feel whenever they were together. He wished someone was there for him like how Emma was there for Abe.

He wished that one day, he'd meet a girl who would love him. Little did he know that he'd already met her.

It was just another evening in the loop. Everyone was enjoying their dinner, the table filled with conversation and delicious plates of food.

Suddenly, Emma's voice echoed throughout the room.

"Why?"

That simple word caused everyone to stop and stare. The next thing they knew, tears poured from her eyes and she fled out of the dining room, crying. Beside where she had been sitting, Abe was looking down at his shoes, looking both upset and relieved. It was clear that he was the reason why Emma fled. He stood up from his chair as well, and followed Emma out the room.

"What was that about?" Millard was the first to speak.

Everyone turned to Miss Peregrine, who wiped her mouth with a napkin nervously.

"Abe--" she was close to tears now. "He's leaving the loop."

Abe's departure was a depressing one. Nearly everyone was crying, but they understood after he explained the purpose of him leaving. He was going out to hunt the wights and hollows throughout the world. He wanted to use his peculiarity to make their world safer, and he promised to check in from time to time and send letters to everyone.

The house wasn't the same without Abe around. Even Enoch felt different. For one, he took Abe's place in helping Emma with her daily chore now. Not that he was complaining. He would hold the rope that held Emma while she placed the falling squirrel back in its nest.

They still received letters from Abe, but as time passed by, replies started to take longer. Then for some time, Abe didn't answer.

Emma started to worry, started to change. She smiled less, and her her head was always up in the clouds. She was always thinking, wondering why Abe didn't answer.

Then finally, a letter came. But it was not something they were expecting. The letter had three simple words: this is why. It was with a photo of Abe; beside him were two kids, who shared similar features with him. It was his children.

Emma cried and cried. Everyone tried to comfort her. Enoch tried to comfort her. Yet her heart was broken, and nobody could put the pieces back together.

It was then that Abe was disconnected to their world. At least, for now.

A/N hey guys!! So I think the chapters are getting shorter and shorter idk if you've noticed but I'll TRY to make the next one longer.
