{PROLOGUE}

Change. In a heartbeat it happens, somehow quickly. Too quickly.

But, somehow we all adapt. We adapt to that change, and it be comes a routine, in some cases.

And also -I forgot to mention- there is good and bad change. But everyone knows that. We also don't think about most things good enough, long enough. And that's why we make bad choices. But, bad choices can turn into good things, so they're not always bad.

For instance, I made a bad choice. I'm not sure if it will turn into a good thing, but I'll just have to wait.

And what was my bad choice?

-FLASHBACK-

"I hate you." I whispered this, not very sure if I wanted her to hear or not.

"Excuse me?"

We are currently sitting in hospital chairs, across from eachother. Mother and Daughter, about to have a heated fight, as you can see.

I swallow hard. Down goes my fears, out comes my mind.

"I said, I absolutely, most positively, hate you." My voice is much clearer now. "How? How could you do this?! You beat your own ten year old son! How? Why? Tell me that, mother." By then, I was standing, close to yelling at her.

She sighed, "Emerald,-

"No," I interrupted her. "Don't call me that,"

"I will call you what I want! Now, I'm trying to be reasonable-

"Reasonable?! After what happened an hour ago? Excuse me, but I believe your still drunk. You know, like dad was after he left you?"

Oh no, I regret those words. I regret them. Regret regret regret regret.

There were tears in her eyes, and she sat up. "Well, you don't need me then? Fine. YOU can take care of you brother. YOU can live on your own. YOU can find your own job. I won't be there when you need me most," And with that, the police took her away, and I got my last glance of my mom.

-END OF FLASHBACK-

And that was my bad choice, saying that I hate her. But I don't know how that could turn into anything good, simply because we as people are not supposed to hate, at least not meant to.

But this world, or society, is mad, and filled with mad things.

I've been sitting in my bed for two hours thinking about... Well, life. I hadn't even bothered to notice my meowing cat sitting on my floor, begging to be fed. Finally I sit up and walk out of my bedroom with my slightly heavy white and grey cat following me at my feet. Oh, his name is Micky. I named him after Micky Mouse, of course.

"Meow. Meow. Meow. Me-

"Micky, shut. up. please." Oh, that shuts him up.

Yet, with all his pride and glory, he prances to his 'Royal Blue' colored bed, lays down, and wait for his meal of canned cat food. I sigh and roll my eyes at how pampered this cat is, but it's my fault. I open the can, and lousily dump it in his bowl and let him chow down. I decide to go outside for a change, it feels like five years since I've seen the sun. I quickly make a way to my room and head to my dresser, pulling out anything I can find that's warm, since it is the end of fall. Before making my way out, I pat Micky on the head.

"Okay Mick, your the guard cat for a couple of hours. You can bite anyone who try's to get anywhere near our beloved apartment. Okay? Okay," I open the red painted door, but not before grabbing my Nikon camera. I never leave without it.

Once the door was locked, I walked down the three steps that lead me to the sidewalk, opening up my camera lens and turning it on. As I walked do,n the sidewalk, I snapped pictures of anything interesting. Birds, falling leaves, old rundown buildings, and even wannabe hipsters that filled the streets. My camera then found its way to a pair of red converse, toes pointing right in my direction. "Hey, nice shoes," I said to the most likely, Hipster. Being my nerdy self, I brought the lens up to the face of the wannabe.

Pulling the camera away from my face, I smiled at the smirking boy. I could tell that his shoes matched his attitude, hands in pockets of the loose fitted jeans, blonde hair but you can easily see the roots, 5sos t-shirt, and I could also tell that he has blue eyes. "Thanks, the names Horan, Niall Horan." I laugh is humor. I already like his guy. He's cool.

"Emerald Scott, but call me Emma. Nice to meet you, Niall." I hold out my hand, but I'm guessing he's a hugger, because he pushed my offered hand down and threw his arms right around my waist.

"Woah! Watch the camera!" I laugh.

"Sorry. Guess what?" He says letting go.

"What?"

"You're my new best friend, Emerald!"
