Chapter 3

“Now,” I say when we have pulled out of the lot and on the highway. “Answer my question!”

“No, she came in, wanted something specially made. It was like it was from a horror movie or something meant to kill some monster. She warned me to keep it a secret. She said if I told anyone, she’d have my head on a platter for dinner.”

“She was making it for a monster Collins, she was making it for me,” I reply flatly. I do not even realize that I am slamming on the gas, speeding along and dodging traffic.

“Rakesh, that’s a terrible thing to say! You’re no monster, so why would she want to kill you?”

“There are things you don’t know abut me Collins. I’m not who you think I am.” I don’t have to think anymore on the gun. I already now it was made for me, and it will be equipped to kill my kind.

“Then tell me, that’s what friends do,” he pleads.

“Amazing you have already forgotten what’s going to happen to you now that you’ve told me,” I begin before continuing. “I know Collins, you’ll know when you’re ready, but right now, you just … aren’t.” I will him to understand, using some of my charms that come with being a vampire to warp his mind. I have only made it so that he drops the subject, as mind control makes me fairly sleepy, and I prefer not to use it on those I hold close to me.

“Fine, then at least tell me who she is,” he pleads, a pouting expression on his face.

“My sister, Allegra,” I answer flatly.

As much as I didn’t want the night to end up with Collins at my place, it seems as though I have no other choice. I cannot risk his life because I forced him to tell me about the gun, for I know that the redhead who purchased it is dead serious. Looking in the skyline’s rearview mirrors, I notice a cherry red mustang trailing us, though further behind. I have a sneaking suspicion she already knows where I live, but it’s best not to leave things to assumptions. How do I get to your house?” I ask.

“Are you being serious?” he asks me, a sudden joy in his voice as his eyes light up with pure amazement.

“Only if you’re not planning on dying tonight. You’ll need me there with you, for protection. We all know I am the better shot,” I say, trying to bring back the amusement, but at the same time trying to avoid telling him anything else about me.

He gives me instructions as we go along. “You mean, she’s really going to kill me?”

“She’s going to try, and I am going to be prepared for when she makes a move. She won’t move in so long as you’re with me, but I can’t stay by your side forever, and unfortunately for us, she has forever to wait. She’s out for revenge, and she is willing to do anything to get it,” I inform him.

He is still shaken up, but he cannot get over the fact that I am joining him at his house. Men! Still thinking about getting women in bed even when their life is at stake! I think with a scowl. The mustang has disappeared as I round the corner and see his house on the end of the block. He must like his privacy, I decide. He is certainly a city man. His house is reasonably worth 800k with vaulted ceilings, a swimming pool, and fancy light fixtures along with a complex exterior design. I know the inside must look nice too. What? Surprised I can’t see through walls? I may be a vampire, but I am not that talented.

“Come on,” I say to him. I notice he has not had enough alcohol to be a complete drunk yet, but after four of his drinks, he is starting to feel the effects. At first, I move to help him, but he pushes me away. Silly boys and their pride and dignity. Always concerned that their man-hood is going to be severed by some chick. I toss him back his keys, and he lets me in.
