derek's death

derek and i were waking to the memorial and i was still shook about everything.

we met up with lauren & josh and then found luke and charlie.

we found a spot under a big oak tree and stood together.

"how are you holding up?" lauren asked me.

"good - i paused. i guess"

"you sure?"

"yeah, just a little shaken up about the whole thing, still."

"i am too, i think we all are. but it's going to be okay!"

"yeah i guess so" i said back wiping a tear from my face.

derek smiled and put his arm around my shoulder.

"today we honor those who lost their lives in this extreme freak accident."

our principal, mr. wheeler was saying over the microphone.

after the ceremony, people had the option to put a carnation on the memorial to show their condolences.

i couldn't stop thinking about what i read last night.

what if death has set in a plan for us? could i prevent it? would i see the signs?"

i suddenly had a flashback to wood shop class my sophomore year. derek was telling how he wanted to be a construction builder when he was older.

i snapped out of the flashback.

"oh my god" i whispered.

"babe what's going on?" derek asked.

"STAY AWAY FROM WOOD" i yelled as i began to cry.

"what is going on?" lauren asked.

"riley it's okay!" josh said.

"she didn't get a lot of sleep last night and -"
derek was saying.

i heard the tree that was behind start to crack.

it started to fall forward.

"DEREK WATCH OUT!" I SCREAMED.

"wha -"

he was interrupted and smashed, to death by the fallen tree.

"NOOOOOOO!" i screamed and fell to the ground crying.
