Amaya hears the door slam and she knows her father is home. She gets up and tiptoes across the room to her sisters bed and taps her back trying to wake her up.
"What?" Mariya answers. Mariya looks up and sees fear in her younger sisters eyes. She frowns and then opens the door to Marcus's room. They shake him violently waking him up. They give him a slight nod and they all tiptoe down the stairs not making a noise. Not daring to make a sound. Not wanting to trip or stumble.
"Where's my beer?!" They hear a booming voice. Another door opens and they see light streaming from the room.
"Rob," the voice says calmly "there is no more beer." The children wince wishing they could stop their mother in her sentence but, they wait until it's time. "No beer?" The deeper voice chuckles then the voice raises into yelling. "I told you to get more from the liquor store! I told you!" The smaller and more mousy voice replyed in the calmest voice possible, "I apologize, but this family needs you and where are you? Gambling, drinking, god knows what! And you complain about beer?" There was a growl and then yelling. "Why you little bi-"
"Now!" Amaya whispers, the children run down the stairs just in time to see their mother holding her hands over her head and the father getting ready to strike her with a empty beer bottle. They lift his arm and trip him making him fall. He goes unconscious and they put him on the couch for the night. "Thank you kids." The mother says kissing their foreheads. "Now you go back to bed."
The children scurry up stairs and tuck themselves back in bed. Amaya lies down on her back and sighs sadly. "When will this end?" She cries silently and closes her eyes and goes to sleep.
