The Infection

Chapter 3: Barely breathing

I could hardly catch my breath as we sprinted around the school. I looked out at the nearby field and saw some infected
half limping half running towardsa the school. Obviously attracted by the gun shots and the screams. This is insane I thought. I glanced behind me to see that Jared, Ethan, and Timmy were still there. I turned back and nearly ran straight into a tree that is in the courtyard.
" wait up Jordan" Timmy yelled at me. I slowed down and turned around. Timmy was spinning his keys on his finger while bent over getting his breath. I could hardly breath myself. Through short painful breaths he said " I am... gonna go... to my truck.... I need to get to my family."
I walked up and held my hand out to him. He looked at me confusingly before he realized what I was doing and he took my hand and shook it.
"It's been nice knowing you hope you survive" he told me with a dead serious look on his face. " this thing won't last long will it?" I asked him. "Oh you watch, this has been going on in all the states now and around the globe. This isn't a small outbreak that would last for a while; this is a world changing event" he exclaimed.
He turned and sprinted towards the parking lot. Leaving just the 3 of us there standing. "We need to get to my truck and get out of here as fast as we can." I told them sternly. They just continued to look around like a hoard of infected would pop out at any second.
      I started to jog around a corner of the school and saw the cop car parked there. That must be officer Tennings car; I wonder where he is. Just then I saw an infected on the ground. The infected though wasn't trying to reach for me it just stared. Then as I got another twenty yards from it I noticed it wasn't even an infected person at all; it was Officer Tennings.
        Then I looked closer and saw the blood stain on his shirt. I ran up to him and asked "are you all right?!"
       He replied, " son, I'm at the end of my days, but you still got a life to live; say um where are your parents, they ever get home?"
       " No sir, they are supposed to come in this Saturday." I informed him.
      " well I hope and pray they come back before this gets out of hand." He told.
      Why don't you leave we all need to get out of here?" I exclaimed at him while I scan around for any infected.
     "Like I said I have nothing left all; I have been bit and don't have long; you need to to take this pistol and everything in my car and get somewhere safe." He told me. Already his words were more labored and harder for him to say. I didn't argue though I thanked him and we spoke a few more before I took his pistol and his extra clips and ran towards his car with the keys.
      "Ok  Jared and Ethan look for the two pistols he says are here and I will get the AR 15 and shotgun." I Said while I ran around the other side and grabbed the guns. We all went to my car and put the guns in the car which thankfully was pretty close to the cop car. As we turned to go back an infected Man was coming towards us.
     "What do we do?" Ethan exclaimed as we stood there in shock.
     "We need to try to kill it or something" Jared told us.
    Just then I remembered the Officer gave me his knife and told me to stab them or shoot them only in the head.
     Without thinking I ran forward and plunged the knife as hard as I could into its skull. Thankfully I aimed just right and it went straight through the eye socket killing it instantly. When I pulled the knife out it made a sickening suction noise and dark blood poured out of his eye. I had to turn away or else I would have lost the little bit of lunch I had today.
      We ran back to the cop car and searched through the car for any other useful items. When we finally walked back to our truck we had found: 6 different boxes of ammunition, a 24 pack of water, some knives and flashlights, and some other little needed things.
      We walked slowly to the truck all of us recapping the events that have just took place. Jared rode shotgun and Ethan rode in the back passenger seat.
     When we drove by where Office was we saw him lying completely motionless on the ground. Turned away quickly from the sad scene and put all my thoughts to driving.
     "So guys," I broke the silence " where are we even gonna go?"
     "Well my parents are also out of town,"  Jared said.
     "I don't care about my parents  all they do is get drunk and do stupid shit!" Ethan exclaimed harshly.
"Well I guess we can head towards our hunting cabin in the country;it's far enough away that there would be hardly any infected" I informed them. They both murmured agreements to me.
As we drove out of the parking lot I couldn't help but sigh as I thought of what is happening to everyone there. Them as we were going to pass the school up completely Jared yelled out "STOP I see Daniel and a couple others students fighting infected lets go help them!"
I pulled over as fast as I could nearly hitting another car in the process as it came speeding down the road. We ran out of the vehicle Ethan had a pistol and I opted for the shotgun. As we got closer Daniel, John, and Taylor were all there fighting off the infected with only a baseball bat and what looked like a chair leg.
I went over and stopped about ten yards away, the first infected I took aim at was a woman that looked to be in her sixties; she was wearing a torn dress and had blood smeared on her face. I shot and hit her just above the ear taking her down swiftly. Ethan had already shot at least three of them and I fired a few more shots into the rapidly decreasing crowd till they were all disabled. I ran over and said "Are y'all okay?"
Daniel just simply replied " because of you."
"Thank you so much" Taylor exclaimed to us.
" Where are you all headed" I asked them, particularly John who had that bat seemed to be the Leader of there tiny group.
"Away from this slaughter house, but I sTill want to see my parents so I'm going to head that way," He replied.
"Your welcome to hop in and we will give you a drive down to your house because I know it's not far off if our course." I offered him.
"Thanks id love too" he exclaimed.
We headed back to the truck and all got in. Daniel sat in the back though with a pistol just in case we need some back up.

ANOTHER CHAPTER FINISHED!!!!

I'm sorry I haven't posted in like 5 days; it's cause I got a lot of work in high school and it's tough stuff.
