The Infection

Chapter 1: the start

Hey guys First chapter woohoo! This chapter may be a bit boring cause I'm introducing some of the characters but it won't be long for the action don't worry;)

The clouds huddled together conspicuously, their dark curves moved across the sky as small droplets of rain splattered on the dry ground. Thunder roared from the clouds as a flash of lightning flew across the sky and disappeared almost instantly. I leaned back into my classroom chair and winced as the silence in the class was broken from the creaking of the chair. I pulled my phone half way out of my pocket

Ughh I groaned inwardly at the sight 20 more minutes till the end of class.

I looked back down at my test and remembered that I was finished after turning it in I glanced at my friend, Jared , who was still busy at working on his test.
When I sat down the announcements came on and mrs. Belling said through the intercom "please keep all students in your class room and lock the doors till further notice" and after a moments pause" nothing to worry about students" even though she said that; her voice depicted a whole other story.

Jared shot a worried look at me before saying to the teacher " Do you really think..." before he could finish the teacher interrupted "surely not."

" What if the virus is actually here!" Ethan exclaimed.

For several months there have been reports of a "virus" throughout the nation and reports of the people that are infected become extremely violent and use there teeth and finger nails to attack you. They are believed to have a none functional brain and need to be reported if you see them asap.

Can it be true .... has the virus come to our town. I shook that thought away almost immediately... that couldn't be true. It's probably just a wild dog loose or something of that sort. Even as I think that I have a sinking feeling in me.

I looked out the window and saw two police cars driving into the school parking lot. When I saw who was driving one of the cop cars my spirits lifted a bit when I saw officer Tennings.

One of my dads best friends also known in town because he has served as sheriff for some time now. Then I saw a woman come around the corner of the school ... he had blood on her dress and hobbled over at the police cars in an attempt to get them.

Just then the teacher shut the blinds and said "don't look out there it is all fine." Ma'am I said frightened " that woman out there was bleeding ... she needs help"

"No, we all stay put and wait for the ok to let all of you go" said the teacher.
We waited for another 15 minutes until we heard screams from the front of the school. What's going on?! As if to clarify that something deeply wrong was going on gun shots rang out from the direction of the screams.

After a few moments more screams could be heard but the worst thing was the screams were only half human they were abnormally loud and high pitched.

We heard alot of commotion and screams from the class room next to us followed by a few more gun Shots. "What the hell is going on we need to find out!" Henry yelled at the teacher now the screams stopped for a moment only to be followed by more screams. There was loud pounding on the door and everyone's heads snapped to the door in an instant. We looked through the small 3x3 inch window to find at least 15 infected people slamming at the door trying to get in.
This is insane I need to get out of here.
Everyone now has backed into the opposite corner of the classroom and stare in fear at the door.
" we need to cover the window so they don't see us and wait for the police to get them away.
After what seemed like hours and in reality was only a couple of minutes there was an audible snap from the direction of the door. On the door just below the window was a large crack that ran straight across the door.

That's it I'm leaving.

"Guys I'm leaving cause I ain't about to get slaughtered, we all need to go out the window whoever wants can also come." I told everyone there. The sound of my voice in the silence only made the infected people slam harder on the door.
I walked to the window to the outside and wrestled with the handle but it wouldn't budge. With out a moments Hesitation I took a chair and threw it at the window. Glass flew everywhere and but most went outside. The chair when through it and landed out side with a thud.
Finally not trapped I told myself.
I climbed up and took one last look at the terrified people to see only 3 of them were following me out.

Jared, ethan, and Timmy were exchanging worried glances as they saw me cut my hands on the glass as I climbed through. When I landed on the outside I was greeted with a chilling fall breeze that only sent more goosebumps down my back. Just as we all were safely out there was another loud snap then a boom as what I guessed was the door falling. I ran as fast as I could around the school not wanting to here my classmates yelps and cries in pain.
This is it.
The apocalypse has officially begun.
