Dreams

Chapter 2

Brianna's eyes flickered open and she stared up at the plain ceiling. Her palms were sweaty as she leaned over her night stand and turned on her light. Grabbing the glass of water on her night table, she gulped it down hastily. “It's just a dream, Brianna,” she whispered to herself. “Are you scared of a dream that's not even real?” But Brianna wasn’t convinced. It felt so real. She remembered the harsh wind blowing at her face, the bright light, the scream, and especially, the young maiden. Scared, she lay there until the first light seeped through the pale, blue curtains and illuminated the purple room. Her alarm rang and she slammed her hand onto the snooze button. She jumped up and rushed into the washroom to change. In a rush, she didn't notice a silhouette outside her window, spying on her.

Brianna ran across the hall of Martin High as the halls emptied and the students entered the classrooms. She turned to the right and crashed right into Whitney Greene, her mortal enemy. Her violet eyes were filled with hate as she stared at her. "Watch it loser, you almost ruined my new skirt. My daddy bought it for me for my 14th birthday," snapped Whitney, as she pushed Brianna to the floor. Smirking, she flipped her dirty blonde hair as she made an “L” shape with her hands. "Excuse me, this school is suppose to be for cool kids, not losers," exclaimed Whitney as she skipped towards the end of the hall chewing on her gum. Brianna wished she could wipe the smirk of her face but she remembered she was late for science class. She raced towards the class room and almost forgot to stop as she skidded on the floor. Grabbing hold of the handle just in time, she turned it slowly, hoping to not make any noise, but the school was old and it creaked as she opened it. Luckily, Mr. Fan was late, as usual.

The classroom was a mess when she entered. Paper airplanes and crumpled paper were flying around in the room. Cries of laughter filled the air as she walked toward her desk and sat down.

“Hey Brianna, are you ready for our science presentation?” asked Abigail Willow, her science partner . Her amber eyes were filled with excitement as Abigail clutched on to her report, ready to present it.

“Yea, I guess,” muttered Brianna as she pulled out her presentation. She found it crumpled and torn at the bottom of her backpack. She tried to straighten it up, but it was too crumpled. Just then, the door swung open and Mr. Fan trudged in. The class immediately fell silent and all the airplanes and paper fluttered slowly to the ground.

“Sorry....late...” panted Mr. Fan and he took out an old, dirty handkerchief and wiped the sweat off his face. “So, for our presentation, can we have.......” He scanned a list of names on a piece of paper. “...Abigail Willow and Brianna Scott."

They shuffled up to the front of the classroom and Abigail started her speech “As we have recalled, in 1914, we had our....” she was interrupted by a loud knock from the door.

“Who is it?” exclaimed Mr. Fan, clearly impatient. Mrs. Kurt, our principal, walked in with a girl behind her. The girl looked strangely familiar to Brianna. Suddenly, a chill went down her spine as she stared at the girl, her violet eyes wide with fear. It was the same girl who was in her dream. “Class, we have a new student and her name is Amber Brown,” said Mrs. Kurt with a big grin on her face.

Brianna's eyes met Amber's for a second and memories of the dream flooded back to her. It was too much. The world started to spin and she grabbed the table for support. All the noise was muffled and pain shot through Brianna's head. Clutching her head, Brianna fell to the ground and she heard a voice call for help. A pair of feet walking towards her before the world went black.

Looking around, she found out that she was lying on the couch in Nurse Jones' room. Shaking her head, she tried to remember what had happened but she couldn't remember anything. Her head hurt and she couldn't think straight as she jumped up from the warm, cozy couch and looked out at the window. Outside, it was dark and the first snow of December drifted to the ground silently. Just then, the door creaked open and a pair of violet eyes scanned the room. Then the door opened wider and Nurse Jones came in holding a warm cup of chocolate. Behind her was the girl. “What was her name again?” She thought for a while before she remembered.”Amber.”

“Hello, honey, you feeling any better? Nurse Jones handed her the chocolate and she sipped on it. The chocolate filled her with warmth and the pain from her head went slowly away.

“I feel much better thank you.” Only then did Brianna notice what time it was. She was late for dinner. She gulped down the rest of the chocolate milk and grabbed her backpack from the floor. “I'd better go home now.”

“Okay. Amber, you’d better head home too.” She opened the door and Brianna and Amber went through.

“Bye,” muttered Brianna as she strode towards the door and pushed it open. The hallways were dark and gloomy as her footsteps echoed down the hall. Just behind her, Amber followed her like a cat trying to catch a mouse.

Once outside, Brianna walked faster as the harsh wind blew on her face. Turning toward to her Street, Victoria Dr., she checked her shoulder, and under the dim street light, she could just make out a silhouette of a girl. It was Amber. Brianna turned around and waited for Amber to come up to her.

When they were about talking distance, Brianna took a deep breath and shouted bravely, “Who are you and why are you following me?”

Amber walked slowly towards her until they were face to face.”So, you want to know who I am.” Amber’s voice was calm and smooth it creep out Brianna. Amber stared hard at Brianna, her eyes as hard as stone. Brianna’s confidence drifted slowly out of her as she trembled. “I think that if I tell you who I am, I would scare you,” whispered Amber. She strolled slowly toward Brianna, a smile creeping slowly out from her face. Under the dim light, Brianna swore she saw Amber giving her a murderous glare. Amber walked closer until their faces were just inches from each other. It took all of Brianna's will power to not back up. Amber leaned closer as she mouthed the words,” I am an assassin...”
