The night has passed. As Mia regains consciousness, she adjusts her visions to the light in her room. She hears a soft knock on the door. "Who is it?" she asked weakly. "It's me, are you decent?" the voice on the other side laughed. Mia recognizes the voice as Cathy. Cathy walks in with tray of breakfast. "Morning, sleepyhead."
"Wha...? It's morning already?"
"Actually, it's 2 in the afternoon. Yeah, girl, I came in last night and you were knocked out; so I decided to come back and cook breakfast for you," Cathy smiles.
Mia tries to remember what exactly happened last night. "I remember coming home from shopping, but after that, it's kinda blurry."
Cathy laughed drinking her orange juice. "You must have had good company to sleep that long. Was he good?"
"Very funny. And no, I did not have anybody up here, except..."
"Except who?"
"Where's Mr. Kitty?"
"Mr. who?" Cathy asked raising a brow. "Was that his stripper name or something?"
"No, I found a cat outside and bought in here."
"Oh. Is he black with yellow eyes?" Cathy said. Mia looks at her surprised. "Yeah, how do you know that?" Cathy point at the window seeing a cat perched on the balcony. "I think that might be him." Mia tries to get up but stumbles. Cathy gets up and opens the window letting him in. "Hm, I didn't take you as a cat person," she replies watching the cat jumps on the bed and rubs against Mia. "I'm usually not, but for some reason, I was attracted to it. Plus, he looked so cute," Mia smiles petting him softly as he purrs. "The strange thing is, I think I saw him shift into a man; and he kissed me, with blood on his lips!"
"Ok, you gotta stop drinking after midnight; because it's making you delusional. You know it gives crazy dreams," Cathy pats Mia's shoulder. "You're right, it must have been a dream; the guy was too cute to be real," Mia giggles. For a second, it looked like the cat was grinning.
"Anywhoo, time for part 2 for your present," Cathy beamed grabbing a bag near her. "But it's not my birthday anymore, silly," Mia laughed.
"I know, but the way I see it, your birthday ends after this month. So, I bought us some movies to watch. We're gonna have an all-day movie extravaganza with loads of popcorn, soda, and candy!" she exclaimed emptying the bag as varieties of candy and popcorn bags fall out. "So, which one do you wanna watch, Men in Black 2 or Mrs. Doubtfire?" she asked. Mia manages to get up and stretches. "It doesn't matter to me as long as we watch them on the big screen downstairs ," she smiles. They walks out of the bedroom and heads downstairs to the living room. Michael, in cat form, follows behind them.
While Mia sets the DVD player, Cathy is heating up the popcorn. They spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies ranging from comedy to horror while shouting at the screen. The sun went down around 6:15 pm as they watched another movie. By then, they had ordered pizza. "Whoo, that was a long-ass movie, " Cathy yawns. "Wanna watch one?" Mia asked. "Sure, but I think I left the bag upstairs in your room," she shrugs. Mia gets up and heads upstairs grabbing the bag and walks back downstairs.
"Ok, so you wanna watch Pirates of The Caribbean or-" her sentence was cut short seeing a man holding Cathy with his mouth closed on her neck. She looks as Cathy begins to feel weak until the man looks up at her with blood-stained lips. Before she could let out a scream, Michael pins her to a wall and covers her mouth.
"Easy, sweetie, you don't wanna wake up the neighbors, do you?" he replies licking the blood from his lips. Mia looks over his shoulder seeing Cathy slumped down near a wall. "I know what you're thinking, but I didn't kill her; she'll live," he said removing his hand from Mia's mouth. Mia was too afraid to speak or move. She looks at him seeing his eyes turn from bloodshot red to dark brown. "Please don't hurt me," she pleaded. Michael smiles wrapping his arms around her waist. "I have no intention of harming you, I told you last night, you're so much more than a meal."
Mia shuddered. "What do you mean "last night"? That wasn't a dream?"
"Oh, it was very real, and it's nice to hear that you thought I was too cute," he smirks watching Mia blush. "Who are you?" she asked. "Of course, how rude of me, " Michael takes a step back and bows.
"Michael Joe Jackson, at your service, my lover."
Mia was a little confused about that last statement. "Wait a minute, what?"
Michael chuckles walking closer to her and holds her close. "It's like I said, I'm Michael, and you are my lifemate."
Lover. Lifemate. It means the same to me. I was a bit worried that she saw me feeding, especially on her best friend. Sometimes the darkness can get the best of me, but not anymore.
