"dodie. liza. someone's at the door." was what woke me up.
dan was standing over us, bed head wild and eyes tired. he looked oddly cute.
banging on the door sounded through the house.
"i got it." i said, my voice thick with sleepyness. i rose gently, making sure not to disturb dodie in her sleep.
more banging.
"shit, it's probably vance." i grumbled, rubbing my eyes and putting on my glasses.
"vance?" dan questioned.
"my...." i paused. "friend." i lied.
more banging.
"i'm coming." i call, making the person stop.
i was met at the door with vance, his eyes showing he hadn't slept well.
"liza, thank god!" he exclaimed, throwing his arms around me. i weakly hugged back, regretting answering the door. i had to get this over with.
"vance, we need to talk"
"liza, i was so afraid you had hurt yourself when i left."
"vance we need to ta-"
"are you okay? i'm sorry i stormed off like that."
"vance, listen-"
"who's that?" he asked, pointing to dan, who had helped himself to some cereal. he smiled and waved.
"that's dan, my neighbor. listen to me, i think we should-"
he wouldn't stop cutting me off. "what's he doing here this early? what's going on?"
i was growing frustrated. "vance!" i scolded, finally getting his attention. "what?" he scolded back.
he'd never done that before. i wasn't gonna let it stop me.
"we need to talk."
he was starting to get irritated, i could tell.
"we can talk after dan leaves." he said, his annoyance showing in his voice. dan chuckled from his seat.
"what's all the noise for?" dodie said, emerging from my room.
vance glanced at me, then her, then dan. "so you had a little party with people i don't know? i'm not sure how to feel about that."
"liza, can i have some cereal?" dodie asked, sitting next to dan. she completely ignored vance's presence.
"you wanna explain why all these people are here?" vance asked, spitting the words out as if they were poison.
i was mad now. "these are my friends." i said calmly. "we need to talk about-"
he cut me off again. "we can talk after you explain why you had people i don't know in an apartment i pay for."
i raised my brow. "you payed the first two month's rent for me while i looked for a job. you don't anymore."
"oh so you're saying you have a job?"
i began to shy away. i've never seen him like this before. "i'm a youtuber. youtube pays me depending on the number of views-"
"that's not a job, liza."
"well, we should probably go, dodie." dan suggested, trying to escape the akwardness.
"no." dodie said strongly. "look how angry he is. he might hurt her. don't put our friend in danger."
vance scoffed. "mind your own business."
"i'm breaking up with you." the words poured out of my mouth and took everyone by surprise.
"oh, shit." dan said, looking at dodie to see her reaction.
"for him?" vance accused, gesturing to dan, who laughed nervously.
"no, vance. for my own well being-"
"don't give me that garbage!" vance yelled. then he flew at dan, fist wound up and ready to attack him.
