Talking to a boy is not really my thing,I freeze and run away like a freak if I must say.But Malik is different,we were close friends the first time I got to this school.I met him in the girls bathroom, not somewhere he shouldv'e been.He and his girlfriend were talking as he said but I didn't believe that.I told him I'd tell but he wouldn't stop bothering me until I gave in and chose not to say anything. He said it would get him a detention and that he had gotten enough from the past weeks so he wouldn't want another adding to that list. After that we kinda hung out and became friends but since 8th grade we haven't been that close. He's Mr.Popular now and I'm just me.But here he is standing infront of me again with his grape scented perfume hopefully asking me out.
"Hey!" he flashed his billion dollar smile with his pearly whites showing.
"Hi," I tried not to pee my pants.Maybe I do get scared around him.
"I haven't spoken to you in a while," he looked down and put his hands in his pockets. He still looks and acts like same old Malik.Hopefully he still is.
"Yeah,Lola said you asked for me."
"Yeah I was umm I was thinking ummm.... I have this History project that I need help with could you squeeze me in your schedule and probably help me,like tonight or whenever."
The smile disappeared from my face but I did it slowly not making it seem so obvious that I was disappointed,"Ummm sure but not tonight I have plans,I'm going out."
"Oh okay whenever else then?"
"Yeah whenever else," a fake smile crept across my face. What a wonderful way to start my day.
"Okay, see you around," he walked away, looking behind him.
"Yep," I said then turned on my feet and went over to Lola.
"Soooooo did he ask you out," Lola said in a excited voice,a little too excited.
"Yep,to help him with his History project."
She frowned,"Bummer, there's other guys out there you'll find someone." I frowned."Come, lets get to class," she pulled me down the hall.
At Church
The best thing about church is that I can sleep without grandma bothering me because she's up on the choir.I shuffled over on the bench, someone was coming in the row.I lift my head from the handle of the bench to see Malik.Oh my god I totally forgot he went to this church, thanks to him ignoring me for years.
"Lux,I never thought I'd see you here," he said taking a seat beside me.
"Yep,same for you," I pursed my lips and looked away like I just got busted.
"I thought you were going out."
I didn't lie can't going out mean to church too huh? "Yes going out to church."
"Oh okay, you were my excuse to not be here if you'd said yes today."
"How great," I said sarcastically not even looking at him for a moment.
"No don't take that as an offense I really have an History project but I really didn't want to come to church tonight."
"Hmmm."
"So how've you been?" he asked.
"I've been great, still getting good grades, still same old Lux."
"Cool. My parents got married if you haven't heard."
"Congratulations,well to them."
"Yeah it's been great."
"That's good."
"So where's your other half?"
"Oh Lola, she's out with her parents it's their anniversary."
"Oh," he nodded and turned his gaze ahead.
I sunk in the seat, pulled my hoodie over my head and fell asleep.I had a lovely dream about a chocolate island. It was a pretty delicious dream,I might have been hungry.Unfortunately my dream was interrupted by a sweet voice calling Lux.I could have sworn it was Jesus.
"Jesus?" I murmured.
"No it's Malik," the voice chuckled.
I jumped out my sleep and sat up.
"Church is over," Malik said smiling quite widely."See you tomorrow at school."
"Yeah," I rubbed my eyes looking more awkward than ever.
Malik rubbed my shoulder then went on his way home.Mmmm where's grandma,I know, talking to the pastor about me going on the choir.
"No grandma," I reached her on time.
"Sweetie why? It's good to be on the church choir," grandma assured me.
"Yes it is.When you're ready there's always a spot on the choir for you," Pastor James said.
"Yes,thank you pastor I'll see you at church Sunday," grandma said.
"Okay bye Lux," he looked at me.
I offered a small smile and grandma and I left the church.
