"(Y/N). Why did you leave me? I thought we were friends. I would never betray you!"
"Stream no! I didn't betray you! I didn't want any of this! Why don't you understand!?"
"Why would I? There's no point. You don't care,"
"Of course I care! Stream!"
I wake up reaching out to empty air again. The past few nights have had the same nightmare, the same tragic "memory." It never happened, but my imagination says it did.
I've just kept on traveling, looking for a town that won't shun me. Still nothing. And I can't find food either. I'm slowly starving, it's been almost a month.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do once I run out. Probably die. Oh well.
"Hey look, it's a new victim! Well, three a day isn't any worse than two!" Two shirtless men with messed up hair strut up to me, smirks plastered on their faces.
"Come here sweet heart, let's see what other expressions besides glare that pretty face can handle," one of them raises an eyebrow at me suggestively.
"G-get away from me!" Crap I stuttered. They take another step forward, almost pinning me against the tree. I feel helpless. I can't move, I've never really fought a person before, this is the first time I've ever talked to one, besides Stream.
Use your magic.
I don't want anyone to get hurt!
Use it!
Bu~
NOW!
Fine
"HUNTRESS'S ORDER REPEL!" I scream out. They go flying backwards, opposite directions. I take the opportunity to run. I run all the way to a fairly small town. It's at least ten miles, full on sprinting. I collapse in front of a newer building, panting, scared. Then I pass out.
~time skip brought to you by the baka next to me~
"Are you going to wake up? Excuse me, miss?" I wake to the sound of a feeble voice wondering probably whether if I'm dead or not. Slowly I sit up, look at her.
The girl looks about my age, maybe a year older, and has brown hair halfway down her back. Her eyes are a deep green, like the forest. They're also wide, scared, uncertain. Of course, my own eyes.
I avert them to the bed spread. Wait, how'd I get here?
"Uh~" I almost start. But my voice fails. Again, I've been living in a cave for 18 years of my life.
"If you want to know, I brought you inside. You were passed out on the doorstep, and it's starting to snow so I didn't want you to catch a cold," I stay silent. It's very kind of her, but I don't know how to respond.
"C-can I...ask you a question?" She asks. I still don't look at her, my eyes still a factor of fear. But I nod.
"Why are your...your eyes like that? She wonders, directly voicing the question I have no answer for.
"I...don't know," I whisper, my voice hoarse.
"W-will you look at me?" She requests, surprising me. Slowly I lift my head and meet her green eyes. They widen, and I quickly look away.
"Sorry," I mutter. Then I lay down in the bed and turn away from her, so I can avoid more conversation.
~later that night~
"I brought you more food," the girl walks in again. I'm sitting up on my bed, staring out the window.
"Thanks," I take it and quickly turn away. I hear her take a deep breath.
"I'm not afraid," she says boldly.
"What?" I turn slightly.
"My eyes weird people out, if you look close enough," she continues, "go on, I challenge you to a staring contest!"
Challenge? Very well.
I look into her deep green eyes, she into my mismatch ones. The green in hers swirls, then changes to black, then to yellow. I break contact.
"What....I've never met anyone with weird eyes....I've never met anyone at all for 13 years!"
"Really!? Well, I'm Roa Norwick. Nice to meet you!" She holds out her hand. I hold mine out too.
"No," she laughs, and takes mine to show me to shake it.
"Oh...." I say in embarrassment, "um, I'm (Y/N) (L/N), I'm glad to meet someone not trying to rape me. Before you found me outside I had been running from two drunkards, and they were creepy," I shudder.
"Oh wow, that sounds terrible," Roa says.
"Yah." I turn away and look out the window again. Intent on keeping silent.
She stands there awkwardly for a few more minutes, expecting me to continue, to say more. I don't. We may have "connected", but I'm still wary, and nervous.
Eventually she sighs and walks out the door, shutting it behind her. I can hear her retreating footsteps, they fade after a few seconds. And everything is silent again. I try to use my Mavec spell, one that allows me a brief connection with Mavis, but my magic energy is depleted. So I stare out the window at the empty street outside, snow slowly coating everything, like a white blanket.
~A week later.~
I've fully recovered, been well fed, magic restored, wounds healed. During the afternoon and evening I listen to loud music, terrible singing, and voices, tons of voices. In the mornings Roa leaves, goes someplace, maybe another job, for a few hours, then comes back.
She always spends about a half hour with me during any time she can, getting me to open up. I won't tell her about Stream, and what happened with him, so there isn't much about myself I talk about. She asks me about plants and animals I know of, a wide topic.
I'm not sure what goes on downstairs, it seems to be some kind of club. I've never asked her. Maybe later, when she comes back up.
She's such a sweet girl. But she won't tell me about any of her past either. I respect that wish, she respects mine.
~later~
"Phew, it's a madhouse today!" Roa enters the room on her break, looking exhausted. She's really gotten me to open, and I'm much more comfortable around her.
"What's going on down there?" I ask.
"Oh, I run a Karaoke Club, where people can come in and sing as much as they want. It's also a bar." She tells me. She also explains how she inherited it from her grandmother.
(Idfk and idfc is this exists. Deal with it)
"Hm, cool." I smile a little, something only she's seen me do. "But is it only you?"
"Yeah. Well, most of the time. I have a cousin who lives in a neighboring city, and she comes and helps from time to time, when it gets really stressful."
"Huh....." I think over this silently for a few minutes.
"Could I help?" Coming to a conclusion, I decide to ask.
"Well, if you want to. Your strength has recovered, along with your magic, and I could use some help." She thinks about it.
"I could use some help too by the way. With being social." I say.
"Hm, I could arrange something." She winks at me and leaves.
I roll my eyes after her. I know there's no one else working here, and so there won't be anyone to arrange stuff with. She's just being silly.
So do you like it so far? I'm hoping it's pretty good, and please point out any grammer mistakes, spelling mistakes, or mistakes in general. Well, have a nice day/night/whatever time it is
