Harry woke up with a start. His hand brushed through his hair and lay for a couple of seconds longer than it should have on his scar. He'd sworn it had stung. But that couldn't be possible. Voldemort was gone and that was that. He glanced over at Ginny who was asleep by his side. She looked so peaceful that he slid out of bed, pulled the covers further over her and crossed the room to the window.
Ice crept up the window outside and Harry's breath left mist on the inside. He looked over the usually reassuring empty fields that surrounded them and felt unprotected. Why was there an unsettling feeling deep in his gut? Harry placed his hand on the glass, hoping the cold would settle his racing heart. He stood there for what felt like hours until the sounds of rustling sheets brought him back to his senses.
"Harry? Are you okay?"
He turned to see Ginny sitting up in bed looking at him with concern. She pushed the sheets away and walked across the room, slipping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his chest.
"I'm fine. Just a bad dream, that's all," he smiled as Ginny stroked his lower back in circles. "Just a bad dream."
"Are you sure?" She looked up at him and he returned her gaze.
"I'm sure."
He felt bad lying to her but she worried enough about their children as it was. With all of them at home for Christmas, the house had become lively again but their happiness couldn't get rid of the uneasy feeling Harry felt. It was as if something bad was going to happen at any moment and Harry couldn't see what that could be.
"Well, I'm going to go see if the kids are up okay? See you downstairs."
Ginny kissed Harry on the cheek before letting go and grabbed her dressing gown from a hook on the wall. Slipping it on, she turned and smiled at Harry. He returned it and satisfied, she left the room. Harry turned once more to the cold landscape and sighed. It was going to be a long day.
