Part Sixteen- Love is Power

•••

Needless to say, the boys did not see Mary Kay on their flight. Her guardians were not fond of letting her wander around with four strangers, no matter how cute they were. Paul had slept nearly the whole flight, and now, he still lounged around in the hotel room he and John shared.

"The lights are beautiful. And the Christmas tree!" Paul shuddered in admiration as he lied with John on the day bed.

The view was most certainly beautiful. The massive size of the famous Christmas tree stood just outside their window, glowing with rainbow lights and great big ornaments. The stars shone brightly, and the full moon reflected off of the ice skating rink beautifully as though the rink itself was one small moon. Fat flakes of snow fell from the clear sky, falling from clouds that weren't even there. People skated below, occasionally stopping to marvel at the tree.

But thirteen stories high in a hotel room, one certain man was about to make history. Not now, but soon. Down below on the icy and slick rink, right in front of the Christmas tree.

John kissed Paul's jawline as he spoke, "Want to go down there and join them?"

Paul stared at the people holding hands, wishing, hoping that he'd get to do that with John, and not get hurt or judged. "Yes," Paul murmured back, kissing the fingers of his lover softly.

Paul carefully sat up, sliding off of the day bed and heading over to where he and John set out all of their clothes.

Within ten minutes, the couple stood in front of the door, one staring lovingly into the others eyes, and the other with a history- changing task ahead of him, all resting in a small box in his pocket.

"Ready?" John asked, more to himself, though it seemed directed to Paul. He tucked Paul's section of the long scarf they wore tighter around his neck. The same scarf they wore in a movie together. A scarf big enough for four, but now used for just two.

"Certainly," Paul responded with a smile. He kissed John one last time before heading out the door in search of his friends.

John simply shook in anticipation. As Paul always did, he never failed to notice the shaky hands of his partner. Just like the night John realized he loved Paul at the concert.

That night was a night to be remembered, just for them, but tonight was a night remembered by the entire world.

John just wished it would snow hard enough, so not everyone there would see what he would do. So he wouldn't risk Paul's safety. So no one could possibly get hurt.

The couple was ready to head out into that beautiful night, not knowing what was ahead of them. Ready to start something huge, a flame of hope for some, under the bright lights of New York.

Most beautiful of all the night was the way that two men could possibly love each other with such intensity. They could simply lay together, as they were at that moment. Laying one on top of the other, admiring the absolute and utter beauty of the city below. Their love, though simple, was the strongest of their time, though no one, not even they knew how powerful of a weapon love could be.

That love will be.

That love is.
