*Zoey's POV*
Getting ready on Friday made me even more nervous than I already was. My conscious kept those nagging thoughts like, "He's gonna think you look stupid" or "You are totally gonna to embarrass yourself! You should just call him and cancel" running through my head, but I had to ignore them. If I backed out of this, I would be a coward, and I hate cowards. Plus, it would waste a day of arguing with my cousin on what I should wear.
I had gone shopping with my cousin, Jessie, yesterday and we got a really cute outfit for me to wear tonight. It consisted of a navy blue, strapless dress with a light brown belt and a crochet design at the bottom, a dark wash jean jacket, whose sleeves I rolled up, and some navy blue Vans. I had paired those with a gold double cage ring, a cute little Lilo & Stitch pendant, and a brown cross-body bag. Jessie was currently doing my hair with curling wand or whatever since my idea of nice hair is tucked away in a SnapBack. But I have to admit, it looks really nice. She did a natural style eye makeup with black eyeliner and a pink lip gloss
We were listening to Bea Miller's amazing cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana as she finished the last section of my hair. I freaking love Bea Miller. She is just friggin' amazing. She has this pop-rock edge in her voice that just makes it unique. Like there is no new teenage rock out there. Don't get me wrong, I love the classics and newer rock like Mumford & Sons and Cage the Elephant, but we need someone new like Bea Miller to spice it up. She is like the new Pat Banatar. Anyway, rant over.
It was 5:50 and Wes said that he would pick me up at 6. So he should be here any minute. God, I'm so nervous.
"Zo, just calm down. It's going to be okay. You look marvelous darling," she said in a fake Britishh accent, making me chuckle. "And if he can't see that you are amazing without all of this, he doesn't deserve you in the first place."
"Thanks, Jess. But it's the first time I've ever been on a date. Hell, it's the first time I've ever liked somebody like this. What if I mess this up?" Jessie has always been the closest thing to a sister that I have ever had.
"Zoey, do you not know who you are? This guy obviously likes you. If he was so nervous to talk to you, what makes you think he's not shitting bricks right now? You're Zoey Parker, and Zoey Parker never fails," she says. I look her in the eye and pull her into a tight hug.
"Thank you, Jessie," I whisper. As we pull away, the doorbell rings.
"He's here," she says and rushes down the stairs. When I hear the door open, I take a deep breath and head down the stairs. Wes has his back turned to me and he's talking to Jessie, until he hears my footsteps. He turns around to look at me and instantly stops talking. I give small, nervous smile as I reach the last step.
"You look amazing Zoey," he says as he eyes me from head to toe.
"Thanks," I blush. "Jessie did it."
He turns to Jessie and says, "Well then I must commend you. You have done an excellent job."
We make our way outside after saying goodbye to Jessie. Wes opens my door for me and helps me get in before shutting the door and making his way to the driver's side. We go to the small restaurant in the Plaza and are seated in the patio area.
We talk until the food comes and we silently eat. The silence is suddenly broken by a feminine voice.
"Oh my gosh!! Wesley is that you?" It asks. I look up to see a skimpily dressed brunette coming towards us. Wes's face lights up and a smile spreads it's way across his lips.
"Kati? Hey, how ya been. It's been a while," Wes says.
"Yeah, since you guys moved from OC. How's Drew and Keats?" She asks as Wes stands and gives her hug. I just sit there and watch them talk. When she sits down and any attention to our date is gone.
