Chapter 1

"Lana! Over here!"

I look around the cafeteria to see my best friend, Brooke, calling and waving to me. She does this every day, though I'm not sure why. We always sit at the same table, with the same people. I chuckle to myself and take a seat next to her and my other best friend, Eleanor.

I've had the same group of friend since I moved to Holmes Chapel. My dad was relocated for work so we were forced to start over here in England. I've always had an easy time meeting new people, and they were all fascinated by my accent, so I made friends really fast. Brooke lived in the house right next to me, and we became friends instantly. I met Eleanor when we started high school, and we got really close right away. Brooke has always been jealous of this, especially because the two of them don't exactly see eye to eye.

"So, Lan, Josh said his parents are out of town tomorrow night, so he's having a huge party at his place."

I rolled my eyes at her. "Brooke, tomorrow is Wednesday. We have school."

"Lan come on!" She wined. "No parents, alcohol, and lots of boys! It'll be fun, and you know it. You are going and that's that."

She turned back to her food and started talking to the person sitting on the other side of her.

"El, are you going?" I asked to her, sitting on the other side of me.

"Probably. If Louis goes it might be a good opportunity to get him to make a move," she whispered, blushing a little.

"Why don't you just ask him out yourself?" I said, not whispering the way she was.

"Shh! He'll hear you!" She whispered, turning a deeper shade of red.

I just laughed and rolled my eyes. Everyone knew Louis and Eleanor liked each other, but neither of them ever did anything about it. I didn't understand why El just waited for him. This is the 21st century, isnt it? I suddenly felt someone's chin resting on my shoulder.

"Josh please don't." I said, not bothering to look who it was.

"Are you coming to my house tomorrow night?" He asked, not moving away from me.

I sighed. Josh and I had a complicated past. We broke up for the last time about six weeks ago, and in my mind we were officially done. He obviously didn't see it that way.

"I don't know if it's a good idea," I said, shifting to make him move away.

He lifted his head up and sighed. "Come on, Lana. Be straight with me. How long are we broken up for this time?"

I stood up and turned to face him. I could feel everyone at our table and several others watching our interaction. I didn't like being the centre of attention, but I was not the type of person to be embarrassed.

"For good, Josh. How many times do I have to tell you that? I'm sick of the lying and the games. Now I think it's time we both moved on." And with that I grabbed my tray and headed for the door.

I dumped the contents of my tray in the garbage and added it to the stack, hurrying to get out of the caf. As I turned I slammed into someone's hard chest. As i started to fall backwards strong arms caught my waist, holding me up.

I looked up to see the most beautiful green eyes boring into my own.
