Brook blinked as she rolled over. Sunlight streamed through the window. Hanging on the ladder, a grin on his face, her older brother Lucas said, "C'mon Brook, or we'll be late for school." Her eldest brother, Robin, said, "Lucas, it's illegal for us to live in a 100 kilometer circle of here, much less go to school here." This was true. The three of them had been living in the old barn for twelve years, ever since their parents and the other Magi had died. It had started when the four elementals, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, had died. The castle, being magic, had decided that the three children would be the next ones, along with another child, James. James had gotten jealous at the siblings, and rashly went to get his awakening early. However, with no instructor, his powers soon got out of control. The children were told to go to the other side of the city and wait. All the Magi went to try to stop the fire. Much of the city burned down before the fire could be suppressed. The men of the city were angry, and shot at the Magi with their bows. All the Magi died. Magi, and everything about them had been illegal since. The children had lived on water for the animals, eggs, vegetables, fruit, and cheese, for the past 12 years. Brook didn't remember much of the castle, as she was only 13 herself. Lucas was fourteen, and Robin was fifteen. However, they had been able to get education due to the idea Brook had. Each day, they would look into the open window to one of the classes. It had worked out fairly well so far. Brook got up and changed into her only other pair of clothes. She then climbed down the ladder to where Robin handed her an apple. She ate quickly, for she knew that the sooner they got to the schoolyard, the better. "Ready?", asked Robin. Brook nodded, gathering her possessions. "Okay", said Lucas, "Hang on...". He quickly climbed up to the window. "All clear", he called. Robin ran out the door, followed closely by Brook. Lucas followed a moment later. They cautiously walked to the school building. Lucas quickly climbed up the wall of the red brick building, all the way up to the steeple. Then, as he had done many times in the past, he uncoiled the rope that had been cleverly concealed there. Soon, Robin and Brook were at the top of the wall. They slid down the flagpole, and viola, the schoolyard. They snuck over to a patch of bushes and laid down their things. The bushes had been cut (thanks to Robin's pocketknife) into a cleverly concealed hideout for the three of them. They each picked up the small notebooks they always kept here, and sat, looking at the sun every now and then to see when they should start preparing for class. After a few minutes, Brook looked up. "That 9th grade teacher has her window open again. Let's head over." They sneaked over to the open window, and peeked in, taking some notes. Suddenly, Brook's eyes widened and she pulled down her brothers. They snuck back over to their hideout. "What?", whispered Lucas. Brook gulped, and said, "I think we were seen.
