~ PINK ROSE ~

A rose is a rose every day, every night,

You too are the same, except different in my sight.

You are like a rose, such a beautiful creation,

But a rose in disguise, meant to bloom for every nation.

So show your beauty, for I know what you are,

You are a rose in disguise, and very, very wise.

"Mommy, mommy , look what I made,"

I turned around to see little Suzanne showing me her artwork. She made a swan from a piece of colored paper and gave it to me. "My, my, what a lovely origami you've made," I said as patted her head. "Are you going to give this to me?" I asked and she nodded while showing me her toothy grin.

It was one Saturday morning when I usually do a volunteer help at the orphanage. I love to play around with children and hang out with them, which was the reason why I spend of my time in the orphanage. They remind me of my youth and made me hope to have children of my own someday when I get married.

"So you are the one that these children referred to as their 'Mommy'," I turned around and saw Stanford smiling as he walked towards my direction. He was wearing plain white polo shirt, denim pants matched with black sneakers. "Hi there Katherine!" he greeted.

I was about to greet him back when Suzanne yelled, "Daddy!" as she went over him and gave him a hug. Stanford pick her up and gave her a small peck on her cheek before he turned to me. "Hello Stanford. I didn't know that you also volunteer to help the orphanage," I said as I stood up from the chair.

"Well, I'm always around here since my family is the one sponsoring this foundation, of course, I took over when my parents died years ago," he explained then added, "although, I'm only here during Saturdays and Sundays since, I have work over the weekdays."

It took me a full minute to digest what he told me, before I blurted, "You own the S.C. Angels Orphanage?"

He smiled at my surprised expression before he nodded and said, "My last name is Cartells."

That was it. He's complete name was Stanford Cartells, short for S.C., the orphanage I usually do my volunteer work. How could I not realized this sooner or better yet, how could I not noticed him for the past days I've been working here?

As I keep on pondering, I notice that Stanford was whispering to Suzanne's ear, then the little girl's eyes widen in excitement. She giggled as Stanford put her down. Suzanne looks at me with a knowing smile before she left. I turned at Stanford with a questioning with a questioning look but he just shrugged while grinning.

I narrowed my eyes. "What were you asking from Suzanne especially she look at me like she has a secret or something?" I asked suspiciously. he was quick with his pace that for one moment he was like a good four feet  away and now, he was just an inch away from my face. I can feel myself turning hot all of a sudden. being so close to him made my pulse beat fast that made me felt so different.

"Do you really want to know?" he whispered to my ear that I could smell his masculine scent from such closeness.

"Er. . . yes" I replied, although it was more like a question than an answer. He leaned back with a smile still plastered on his face, which I found it very charming. He raised his hand, showing off his fingers spreading then started to countdown. "Five. . . Four. . . Three. . .," he said  while each finger is curved down. ". . . Two. . . One. . ."

The moment he said zero, I heard Suzanne coming back towards us while hiding something from her back. I was about to ask when Stanford beat me to her first and blocking my view, whatever Suzanne  was hiding that she immediately gave it to him.

"You should give that to Mommy in a romantic gesture," I overheard Suzanne talking to Stanford as he let out a soft chuckle. "Say something romantic too!"

Stanford just nodded from what she said before he turned around and face me. I look at Suzanne who was giving a big smile then I turned to Stanford who was giving me an amusing smile. Before I could even ask, Stanford kneel down in one knee and took out a pink rose made of paper from his back.

"He told me to make a pink paper rose so that Daddy could could give it to you, Mommy," the little informed me, but I was just too surprised at his gesture to hear what she was saying.

"To a lovely maiden whom these children are isnpired, I give you this," he held out the pink paper rose infront of me, "from a man to woman that he admires," he said the words like the ones actors speak in Shakespeare's play.

I took the pink rose from him and I could feel my heart beat.

Could this be love I'm feeling right now?
